Interaction capacity as a potential driver of community diversity

Masayuki Ushio

Summary: The interaction capacity and network connectance are fundamental properties influencing community diversity, with the average interaction capacity of a community becoming saturated as diversity increases. Total DNA abundance and temperature nonlinearly influence interaction capacity and connectance, explaining a large proportion of diversity patterns in various systems. The interaction capacity hypothesis provides mechanistic explanations for community diversity and offers new insights into analyzing ecological community data.

Host habitat is the major determinant of the gut microbiome of fish

Pil Soo Kim et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterized gut bacterial communities in fish, revealing that the dominant phyla were Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. The gut microbiota in fish was more strongly influenced by host habitat than by host taxonomy or trophic level.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
