Neuropsychiatric Manifestations of Antiphospholipid Syndrome-A Narrative Review

Yik Long Man et al.

Summary: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a common autoimmune disorder that causes thrombosis and pregnancy complications. It is associated with a wide range of neuropsychiatric symptoms, including transient ischemic attacks, strokes, cognitive dysfunction, seizures, headache, and chorea. While the underlying pathogenesis is understood for some symptoms, the mechanisms for others remain uncertain.

Disrupted resting-state interhemispheric functional connectivity in systemic lupus erythematosus patients with and without neuropsychiatric lupus

Yi-ling Wang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate alterations in interhemispheric homotopic functional connectivity in SLE patients with and without neuropsychiatric lupus, and their correlations with clinical characteristics and neuropsychological performance. Both NPSLE and non-NPSLE groups showed attenuated homotopic connectivity in various brain regions compared to healthy controls, with the impairment being more pronounced in NPSLE patients. Decreased interhemispheric homotopic functional connectivity in certain brain regions was associated with anxiety symptoms in SLE patients.

Wentian Lu et al.

Summary: The diagnostic performance of ACR-1997, SLICC-2012, and EULAR/ACR-2019 classification criteria in adult patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) was evaluated. The results showed that SLICC-2012 and EULAR/ACR-2019 had better diagnostic ability than ACR-1997, and the sensitivity of the former two criteria was also higher than that of the latter.

Summary: Serum concentrations of S100A8/A9 may be associated with neuropsychiatric involvement and fatigue in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. S100A8/A9 might be a useful marker for evaluating neuropsychiatric SLE, although further investigations are needed to confirm this association.

Following the Clues: Usefulness of Biomarkers of Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration in the Investigation of HTLV-1-Associated Myelopathy Progression

Flavia dos Santos Souza et al.

Summary: The study evaluated biomarkers of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in HAM/TSP prognosis, finding a positive correlation between levels of neurofilament proteins and disease progression speed, as well as active neuroinflammation indicated by elevated levels of specific chemokines. The CSF/serum neopterin ratio could serve as a strong indicator for disease progression, providing valuable insights for overcoming differences in laboratory assays.
