Dietary selenium excess affected spermatogenesis via DNA damage and telomere-related cell senescence and apoptosis in mice

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of selenium on male reproductive function and its possible mechanisms. Excessive selenium intake damaged the tissue structure of the testes and epididymides of mice, resulting in decreased sperm quality and quantity. Furthermore, excessive selenium induced oxidative stress, DNA damage, and disrupted telomere function. These effects led to germ cell senescence and apoptosis in the testes.

Erxian decoction alleviates cisplatin-induced premature ovarian failure in rats by reducing oxidation levels in ovarian granulosa cells

Jiao Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that Erxian Decoction (EXD) can improve ovarian function, delay senescence, enhance the antioxidant and anti-apoptotic capabilities of the ovaries, improve the estrous cycle, and hormone secretion, as well as reduce senescence in ovarian granulosa cells. These findings strongly suggest that EXD may contribute to the alleviation of premature ovarian failure (POF) and senescence in ovarian granulosa cells.

TrkB agonist antibody ameliorates fertility deficits in aged and cyclophosphamide-induced premature ovarian failure model mice

Xunsi Qin et al.

Summary: The agonistic antibody targeting the BDNF receptor TrkB can promote follicle development and oocyte maturation, reverse ovarian deficits and infertility in models of premature ovarian failure. The antibody activates TrkB signaling and restores the number and quality of oocytes and enhances fertility. This study identifies TrkB as a potential target for treating premature ovarian failure.

Chitosan Oligosaccharides Alleviate H2O2-stimulated Granulosa Cell Damage via HIF-1α Signaling Pathway

Ziwei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the protective effect of chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) on hydrogen peroxide-stimulated oxidative damage and apoptosis in granulosa cells (GCs) was investigated. The results showed that COS significantly improved cell viability, mitochondrial function, and cellular glutathione (GSH) content, while reducing apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, and the levels of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha), and vascular endothelial-derived growth factor (VEGF). COS also modulated the levels of certain proteins, including TGF-beta 1, IL-10, and IL-6.

Prempree Sutthasupha et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) on preventing obesity-related complications and providing renoprotection in a prediabetic model. The results showed that COS successfully improved obesity, glucose intolerance, and kidney dysfunction by attenuating intestinal lipid absorption and the inflammation-autophagy-apoptosis axis.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency: Past, Present, and Future

Seung Joo Chon et al.

Summary: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterized by the loss of normal ovarian function before the age of 40, affecting a small percentage of women under 40. The condition is biochemically defined by amenorrhea, low estrogen levels, and high gonadotropin levels, potentially leading to infertility. POI has a heterogeneous etiology, including both genetic and non-genetic factors, and current research focuses on genetic basis, non-coding RNA, and animal models to uncover pathogenesis and potential treatment targets. Despite recent advances, understanding gene regulatory networks and exploring therapies remain critical for future research.
