Variations in the Gut Microbiota in Breast Cancer Occurrence and Bone Metastasis

Yu Wenhui et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the gut microbiota of breast cancer patients and normal controls, and found that it is associated with breast cancer occurrence and bone metastasis. Streptococcus, Campylobacter, and Moraxellaceae were more abundant in breast cancer patients, while Megamonas and Akkermansia were less abundant in bone metastasis patients. Lipid transportation and metabolism, as well as folate biosynthesis, were predicted to be involved in breast cancer occurrence, while steroid hormone biosynthesis influenced bone metastasis.

Microbiota of Breast Tissue and Its Potential Association with Regional Recurrence of Breast Cancer in Korean Women

Hyo-Eun Kim et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that there is a dysbiosis of the microbiome in breast tissue from breast cancer patients, and that the microbiota may impact disease progression. In this study in Korea, analysis of 141 tissue samples revealed that the microbiota in breast tissue could be divided into two clusters, with different correlations to clinicopathologic factors and risk of recurrence. Further research is needed to validate these findings and potentially develop new prediction methods and treatments for breast cancer patients.
