miR-23b/TAB3/NF-κB/p53 axis is involved in hippocampus injury induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in rats: The protective effect of chlorogenic acid

Shiva Roshan-Milani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury on the miR-23a/TGF-beta-activated kinase 1 binding protein 3 (TAB3)/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappa B)/p53 axis in rat hippocampus and evaluates the impact of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on these molecular changes. The results suggest that the miR-23b/TAB3/NF-kappa B/p53 axis may play a regulatory role in hippocampal cell death, and CGA can effectively reduce hippocampal apoptotic damage.

Amphotericin B-Loaded Plant-Inspired Polyphenol Nanoparticles Enhance Its Antifungal Activity and Biocompatibility

Suhair Sunoqrot et al.

Summary: A nanomedicine loaded with Amphotericin B (AmB) was successfully synthesized using plant-inspired oxidative self-polymerization of quercetin (QCT). The AmB-loaded nanoparticles showed high drug loading efficiency, sustained release of AmB, and improved biocompatibility compared to free AmB. These results demonstrate the potential of these polymerized QCT nanoparticles as a viable delivery platform for AmB in the treatment of fungal infections and other AmB-susceptible pathogens.

Association of smoking status and health-related quality of life: difference among young, middle-aged, and older adults in Shandong, China

Zhengyue Jing et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a significant association between smoking status and health-related quality of life among adults in China, with differences noted among young, middle-aged, and older adults. Smoking status was only significantly associated with HRQOL in middle-aged and older adults, but not in young adults. Public health efforts should focus on implementing measures to control tobacco use among adults in China.

Bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity and antiproliferative effects in prostate cancer cells of green and roasted coffee extracts obtained by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE)

Julia Montenegro et al.

Summary: Research has shown that green and light roasted coffee extracts exhibited the highest antioxidant activity. While caffeine content was not affected by roasting, chlorogenic acid degraded with temperature, and caffeic acid increased in light roasted but decreased in medium and dark roasted coffee. Green and light roasted coffee extracts demonstrated greater inhibition of cell viability, cell cycle arrest, and apoptotic cell death compared to medium and dark roasted extracts, suggesting a potential preventive effect against prostate cancer.

Therapeutic Nanoparticles from Grape Seed for Modulating Oxidative Stress

Tianyou Wang et al.

Summary: The study reports a direct fabrication strategy towards polyphenol nanoparticles with tunable size, excellent biocompatibility, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging capacities from grape seed via an enzymatic polymerization method. The resulting nanoparticles can efficiently prevent cell damage from ROS and exert promising in vivo antioxidant therapeutic effects on several oxidative stress-related diseases. This research can stimulate the development of more kinds of low-cost, safe, and efficient biomass-based antioxidative nanomaterials via similar fabrication methodologies.
