Nanocrystalline Skinnerite (Cu3SbS3) Prepared by High-Energy Milling in a Laboratory and an Industrial Mill and Its Optical and Optoelectrical Properties

Erika Dutkova et al.

Summary: Copper, antimony, and sulfur were used to synthesize skinnerite (Cu3SbS3) through mechanochemical synthesis in laboratory and industrial mills. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of pure monoclinic skinnerite in the laboratory mill and a mixture of skinnerite, famatinite, and tetrahedrite in the industrial mill. The resulting nanocrystals were agglomerated into micrometer-sized grains. Optical and optoelectrical properties of the skinnerite prepared in the laboratory mill showed potential for photovoltaic applications.

Mechanochemically synthesized ternary chalcogenide Cu3SbS4 powders in a laboratory and an industrial mill

Erika Dutkova et al.

Summary: In this work, famatinite Cu3SbS4 was successfully synthesized using elemental precursors via laboratory planetary ball milling and industrial eccentric vibratory milling, with crystallite sizes of 14 nm and 10 nm, respectively. The determined band gap energy of 1.31 eV and 1.24 eV shows a blue-shift relative to bulk Cu3SbS4, indicating potential photovoltaic properties. The scalable milling process represents a promising route for mass production of Cu3SbS4.

Kristopher M. Koskela et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the use of thiol-amine solvent mixtures to dissolve CuO and Bi2S3 precursors and produce Cu3BiS3 thin films with high quality, high purity, and a direct band gap of 1.47 eV. These thin films show promise as a solution-processable solar absorber with strong optoelectronic properties.

Wittichenite semiconductor of Cu3BiS3 films for efficient hydrogen evolution from solar driven photoelectrochemical water splitting

Dingwang Huang et al.

Summary: A Cu3BiS3-based photocathode with high onset potential and long-term stability in neutral water solutions has been developed, achieving a photoelectrochemical current density of 7mA/cm(2) and an unbiased solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of over 2% when combined with a BiVO4 photoanode. The tandem device of Cu3BiS3-BiVO4 also demonstrates high stability over 20 hours, and a large module has been fabricated with a long-term stability of 60 hours for overall solar water splitting.
