Xiaodong Ge et al.

Summary: The removal efficiencies of various tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) by the OVs-LFO/PS-driven photo-Fenton system were investigated. The study examined the influence of molecular structure on the removal efficiencies and identified three key parameters related to molecular orbitals that contributed significantly to the removal efficiency. DFT calculations were used to predict the degradation of pollutants with different structures, providing insights for the oxidative degradation of pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Visible light enhanced persulfate activation for degradation of tetracycline via boosting adsorption of persulfate by ligand-deficient MIL-101 (Fe) icosahedron

Gangya Cheng et al.

Summary: Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (Fe-MOFs) with different particle morphologies, exposed facets and ligand defects were prepared using acetic acid/N, N-dimethylformamide (HAc/DMF) mixture solvents. Under visible light irradiation and the addition of sodium persulfate, 5H-MIL-101(Fe) showed the highest degradation activity for tetracycline (TC). The enhanced catalytic activity was attributed to the active facets exposed and ligand defects of 5H-MIL-101(Fe). Moreover, the toxicity of intermediates was predicted using a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) mathematical model.

Summary: This study prepared Ru3+-doped LaFeO3 nanocrystalline particles through mechano-synthesis at lower temperatures compared to conventional synthesis methods. The Ru3+ ions substituted the Fe3+ ions in the lattice, resulting in a weak Jahn-Teller-like distortion. Fe3+ ions were in a high-spin state, and the lattice distortion was mainly due to particle size. The optical band gap decreased with increasing Ru3+ dopant concentration.

Degradation of tetracycline by activated peroxodisulfate using CuFe2O4-loaded biochar

Chenyue Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a CuFe2O4@BC system was constructed to degrade tetracycline (TC) using activated peroxodisulfate (PDS) catalysts. It was found that under acidic conditions, the optimal dosage of CuFe2O4@BC and PDS concentration were 0.1 mg/L and 10 mM, respectively, achieving a TC removal efficiency of 96.0%. The synergistic effect of CuFe2O4 and BC improved catalytic performance and prevented agglomeration of metallic nanoparticles. The degradation of TC was attributed to the combined effects of sulfate radicals (SO4.?), hydroxyl radicals (.OH), and singlet oxygen (O-1(2)).

Defects and Phase Formation in Non-Stoichiometric LaFeO3: a Combined Theoretical and Experimental Study

Daniel Mutter et al.

Summary: The defect chemistry of perovskite compounds is closely related to the stoichiometry and valence states of transition-metal ions, allowing for tuning catalytic properties through defect engineering. Combining theoretical calculations and experimental methods, this study investigates the feasibility of manipulating the valence state of iron and the concentration of point defects by synthesizing La-deficient LFO. The results suggest that significant compositional deviations from stoichiometric LFO are not expected by varying the conditions of oxidic precursor compounds in solid-state processing routes.

Factors Governing Oxygen Vacancy Formation in Oxide Perovskites

Robert B. Wexler et al.

Summary: The study presents a compact linear model for predicting the energy of neutral oxygen vacancy formation in ABO(3) perovskites, showing reasonable accuracy across a diverse set of perovskites. The model considers perovskites containing alkaline-earth metals and lanthanides on the A-site, and 3d transition metals on the B-site, with physically intuitive metrics extracted from experimental thermochemical data or inexpensive quantum mechanical calculations playing a key role. The model not only validates against known trends but also identifies new candidate perovskites for potential applications like thermochemical water-splitting, showcasing a valuable tool for high-throughput computational screening and understanding the dominant physics of oxygen vacancy formation in metal-oxide perovskites.
