New insights into the capture performance and mechanism of hazardous metals Cr3+ and Cd2+ onto an effective layered double hydroxide based material

Sidi Zhu et al.

Summary: The phosphonate functionalized layered double hydroxide proved to be an excellent adsorbent for capturing toxicant metal ions, with a maximum adsorption capacity dominated by chemisorption and monolayer interaction. In addition, the spent adsorbent showed satisfactory reusability after multiple cycles, and Forcite simulation suggested electrostatic interaction as a critical mechanism for modifiers and the surface sites of the interlayer.

Facile synthesis of cinnamic acid sensitized rice husk biochar for removal of organic dyes from wastewaters: Batch experimental and theoretical studies

Naila Tabassam et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel adsorbent was prepared by modifying rice husk biochar (RHB) with cinnamic acid (CA). The adsorption mechanism and characteristics of the modified biochar for methylene blue dye (MB) were investigated using experimental and theoretical methods. The results showed that the modified biochar had enhanced adsorption capacity for MB and the adsorption process was chemically driven by electrostatic interactions.

Synthesis and Micromechanistic Studies of Sensitized Bentonite for Methyl Orange and Rhodamine-B Adsorption from Wastewater: Experimental and DFT-Based Analysis

Sadaf Mutahir et al.

Summary: This research reports the formation of a new adsorbent, activated bentonite with cinnamic acid, which demonstrates high efficiency in removing dyes from wastewater. The study compares the adsorption efficiency of the activated bentonite with unmodified bentonite using methyl orange and rhodamine-B as target dyes. Characterization techniques such as XRD, FTIR, and SEM were employed to analyze the activated bentonite. The results suggest that acid activation with cinnamic acid increases the surface area of the bentonite, enhancing its adsorption efficiency.

Effective Removal of Refractory Pollutants through Cinnamic Acid-Modified Wheat Husk Biochar: Experimental and DFT-Based Analysis

Umme Habiba et al.

Summary: Sorption technologies are crucial for removing refractory pollutants from water. A study investigated the use of wheat husk biochar modified with cinnamic acid (WHB/CA) to collect dangerous organic pollutants. The results showed that WHB/CA exhibited outstanding adsorption capabilities, with chemisorption and monolayer contact as the dominant removal mechanisms.

Enhanced PbCl2 adsorption capacity of modified kaolin in the furnace using a combined method of thermal pre-activation and acid impregnation

Haoqiang Cheng et al.

Summary: The combined modification method of thermal pre-activation and acid impregnation effectively enhances the adsorption efficiency of kaolin for PbCl2 vapor capture. O2 and H2O promote the capture of PbCl2, while CO2 hinders it. By promoting the formation of highly active free silica, improving the specific surface area and pore structure, and inducing the conversion of 6-coordinated Al atom to unsaturated coordinated Al atom, the modification process enhances the adsorption of PbCl2 vapor by kaolin in the furnace.

Exploration of adsorption mechanism of 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid onto kaolinite and montmorillonite via batch experiment and theoretical studies

Sidi Zhu et al.

Summary: By conducting batch control experiments and theoretical studies, it was found that clay minerals with different crystal structures, kaolinite and montmorillonite, have different adsorption characteristics towards 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTC). Molecular dynamic simulations and density functional theory analyses provided consistent results, enhancing our understanding of the adsorption mechanisms at the interface of different clay minerals.

Cobalt and nickel oxides supported activated carbon as an effective photocatalysts for the degradation Methylene Blue dye from aquatic environment

A. Murugesan et al.

Summary: Oxides supported Activated Carbon (Ox-ACs) were prepared from Calophyllum inopyllum via pyrolysis and acid treatment, with cobalt and nickel oxides doped on the surface. These doped Ox-ACs showed efficient photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue, with the incorporation of Co2+ and Ni2+ ions significantly enhancing the degradation rate. The kinetic study using Langmuir-Hinshelwood model showed good fitting, and the recyclability test confirmed the stable performance of the catalysts for effluent dye degradation.
