Low temperature mechano-catalytic biofuel conversion using liquid metals

Junma Tang et al.

Summary: By using mechanical energy as the stimulus and liquid metal gallium (Ga) together with nickel (Ni) particles as co-catalysts, renewable biofuels can be converted into mainly H-2 and C2H4 at near room temperature. This approach offers an alternative for H-2 and C2H4 production without high reaction temperatures and fossil fuel hydrocarbons.

Liquid-Metal-Enabled Mechanical-Energy-Induced CO2 Conversion

Junma Tang et al.

Summary: This green carbon capture and conversion technology uses liquid gallium to reduce CO2 into solid products and O-2 at near room temperature, driven by mechanical energy. With a gallium/silver fluoride mix at 7:1 mass ratio, it achieves 92% efficiency in capturing and converting a tonne of CO2 at a remarkably low input energy of 230 kWh. Overall, this technology offers an economical solution for reducing CO2 emissions.

Novel pathway for the sonochemical synthesis of silver nanoparticles with near-spherical shape and high stability in aqueous media

Bryan Calderon-Jimenez et al.

Summary: The present study demonstrates a novel sonochemical synthesis pathway for the production of stable sub-15 nm silver nanoparticles with quasi-spherical shape. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the properties of the synthesized silver nanoparticles, and a practical purification method was established. The study also provides valuable information about the shape and crystalline structure of these nanoparticles, and reveals their stability under different conditions.

Plasma-enhanced elemental enrichment of liquid metal interfaces: Towards realization of GaS nanodomains in two-dimensional Ga2O3

Mohammad Karbalaei Akbari et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the atomic-scale incorporation of elemental impurities into two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors through plasma-enhanced metal-catalyst-assisted dissociation. The electronic properties of 2D surface oxide films were altered with the development of 2D heterointerfaces. The combined mechanisms of valence change and electrochemical metallization were engaged in bipolar resistive switching dynamics of functionalized 2D oxide films.

Ag-Ga Bimetallic Nanostructures Ultrasonically Prepared from Silver-Liquid Gallium Core-Shell Systems Engineered for Catalytic Applications

Claudia A. Echeverria et al.

Summary: In this study, one-dimensional silver-gallium (Ag-Ga) nanoalloys were successfully synthesized using liquid-phase gallium nano-/microspheres as reaction media. The green synthesis method involved ultrasonic input at near room temperature. The experimental outcomes revealed that the development of 1D Ag-Ga nanoalloys was influenced by the ultrasonic exposure time, leading to the formation of Ag-Ga bimetallic core-shell microsystems. The self-assembly mechanisms were primarily driven by Ga-(L) surface tension and intermolecular forces promoting intermetallic diffusion.

A review on green synthesis and recent applications of red nano Selenium

Pradnya B. Nikam et al.

Summary: Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are essential micronutrients with significant applications in various fields. Biological synthesis is the preferred method for SeNPs synthesis due to its environmental safety, low toxicity, high stability, and low energy requirements. Many microorganisms have the ability to convert toxic selenium oxyanions into less toxic elemental Se nanoparticles, serving as detoxification agents.

Organic Sonochemistry: A Chemist's Timely Perspective on Mechanisms and Reactivity

R. Fernando Martinez et al.

Summary: Sonochemistry, using sound waves in the ultrasonic range to enhance or alter chemical properties and reactivity, is a long-standing and sustainable technique that has received less attention than other activation protocols despite its affordable setups. While the impact of ultrasound-based strategies in a broad range of chemical and biological applications is undeniable, there are considerable misunderstandings and pitfalls regarding cavitational effects and the actual role of the acoustic field. Through selected examples of past and recent developments, the potentiality of sonochemistry in synthetic organic chemistry is discussed, highlighting specific controlling effects and working rules. Looking back at the past while looking forward to advancing the field, some essentials of sonochemical activation will be distilled.
