Facing the high share of variable renewable energy in the power system: Flexibility and stability requirements

K. Guerra et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the performance of a power grid with a high penetration of variable renewable energy (VRE) and finds that current ambitious decarbonization targets are not realistic due to increased flexibility requirements and stability constraints. The research suggests that new technologies with lower emissions, cost, and higher inertia should be considered for power systems with more than 39% VRE.

Techno-Economics and the Identification of Environmental Barriers to the Development of Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Plants in India

Seepana Praveenkumar et al.

Summary: The study simulated 100 MW solar tower power plants with two different condenser models in six geographical areas in India using the SAM model, optimizing thermal energy storage and solar field size to determine the minimum levelized cost of electricity. Results showed that the LCOE for the dry-cooled condenser model ranged between 13 and 17 cents/kWh, while the wet-cooled model ranged between 12.40 and 12.96 USD cents/kWh.
