Why do ventilation strategies matter in controlling infectious airborne particles? A comprehensive numerical analysis in isolation ward

Huiyi Tan et al.

Summary: A proper ventilation strategy in an isolation ward can improve indoor air quality and reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and airborne diseases. This study proposes and examines ventilation strategies to reduce particle settlement in patients. The combination of a ceiling-mounted air diffuser and air curtain jet proves effective in preventing particle settlement on patients and reducing particles in the vicinity of medical staff.

Effects of medical staff's turning movement on dispersion of airborne particles under large air supply diffuser during operative surgeries

Keng Yinn Wong et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of medical staff's turning movements on particle concentration in the surgical zone and settlement on the patient under single large diffuser (SLD) ventilation. The results show that SLD ventilation can reduce the number of dispersed particles in the surgical zone and decrease the particles that settle on the patient. However, using a larger air supply area may not significantly reduce the settled particles and may increase operating and maintenance costs.

Effects of artificial impeller blade wear on bubble-particle interactions using CFD (k-e and LES), PIV, and 3D printing

Allan Gomez-Flores et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of blade wear on flotation efficiency using computational fluid dynamics simulations and experimental validation. The results showed that blade wear increased the floatability of fine particles while decreasing that of coarse particles.

Computational fluid dynamics simulation of a stirred tank reactor

Gaurav Mittal et al.

Summary: This study simulated the flow field inside a stirred tank reactor using ANSYS Fluent CFD package. The simulated velocity profiles were compared with experimental data, showing good agreement in capturing the overall flow features but also revealing some discrepancies. Suggestions for further extending the work to properly evaluate the MRF technique and various turbulence models were provided.
