Particle erosion behavior in viscoelastic surfactant abrasive slurry jetting

Zhiguo Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Octadecyl Trimehyl Ammonium Chloride and NaSal were mixed as additives to form abrasive slurry. The erosion behavior of abrasive water jet (AWJ) and abrasive slurry jet (ASJ) was compared, and it was found that the addition of VES enhanced the erosion rate of the target specimen by the jet. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis showed that the surface morphology of ASJ eroded specimens was deeper and more focused than that of AWJ. A prediction model suitable for VES abrasive slurry jet was established and its accuracy was verified through experiments. This work has implications for the application of VES-ASJ in oil and gas fields.

Finite volume simulations of particle-laden viscoelastic fluid flows: application to hydraulic fracture processes

C. Fernandes et al.

Summary: Accurately resolving the coupled momentum transfer between the liquid and solid phases of complex fluids is essential in multiphase transport processes. This study uses direct numerical simulations and closure drag laws to investigate the flow characteristics of viscoelastic fluids through static random arrays of spherical particles.
