Delineation of Groundwater Potential Area using an AHP, Remote Sensing, and GIS Techniques in the Ifni Basin, Western Anti-Atlas, Morocco

Mustapha Ikirri et al.

Summary: An assessment of potential groundwater areas in the Ifni basin was conducted using a multicriteria analytical approach that integrated geomorphological and hydroclimatic factors. Geographic information systems (GIS) and hierarchical analytical process (AHP) models were employed. The results provided a groundwater potential map (GWPA) and showed good predictive accuracy, enabling water operators to select favorable sites for groundwater extraction.

Integrated Geotechnical Approach and GIS for Identification of Geological Resources Exploitable Quarries for Sustainable Development in Ifni Inlier and Lakhssas Plateau (Western Anti Atlas, Morocco)

Mohamed Mahmoud Sebbab et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to identify, quantify, and delineate suitable aggregate resources in the Precambrian massif of Ifni and the limestone plateau of Lakhssas in Southwest Morocco by analyzing geological samples and creating a geospatial database using a geographic information system (GIS). Based on laboratory tests and geological standards, the geotechnical classes of different geological outcrops were determined, and potential exploitation areas were identified and quantified using GIS. Geotechnical mapping based on laboratory results and GIS data will be useful for regional authorities and stakeholders in the rational management of quarrying activities.

Mineral prospectivity mapping: a potential technique for sustainable mineral exploration and mining activities - a case study using the copper deposits of the Tagmout basin, Morocco

Fatima Zahra Echogdali et al.

Summary: Mineral prospectivity mapping (MPM) was used in this study to optimize copper exploration in the Tagmout basin, Morocco, with the application of a fuzzy operator and parameter weighting to determine the most favorable zones of copper mineralization. The accuracy of the model was confirmed using a normalized density index, showing the reliability of the method. The results suggest that MPM is a powerful technique for planning exploration programs aimed at sustainable mining activities.

Application of Analytical Hierarchy Process and Geophysical Method for Groundwater Potential Mapping in the Tata Basin, Morocco

Fatima Zahra Echogdali et al.

Summary: Ensuring water availability in semi-arid mountainous regions requires controlling factors influencing groundwater availability. The use of GIS, remote sensing, and decision-making methods can help understand and assess water availability. In the Tata basin in Southeast Morocco, ten factors were used to explain the groundwater potentiality map, identifying different levels of potential zones.

Gravity study of the Western Bahira Basin and the Gantour Phosphatic Plateau, central Morocco: Interpretation and hydrogeological implications

Mohammed Jaffal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the deep geologic structure of the Western Bahira Basin using gravity data. The main purpose is to improve the understanding of the groundwater dynamics in this region. The qualitative and quantitative interpretation of the gravity data, along with various filtering and analysis techniques, reveal the major geological structures. The analysis shows that the anomalies can be explained in terms of bedrock topography and sedimentary sequences. Furthermore, the study quantitatively assesses the geologic structure using different techniques and identifies several major faults rooted at depths exceeding 2800 m. The results also highlight the asymmetric structure of the Western Bahira trough and its impact on groundwater flow.

Flood Hazard Index Application in Arid Catchments: Case of the Taguenit Wadi Watershed, Lakhssas, Morocco

Mustapha Ikirri et al.

Summary: In this study, the Taguenit basin in southern Morocco was analyzed using GIS technology and multi-criteria analysis to map flood risk zones. By considering and calculating the weights of seven parameters including rainfall, slope, flow accumulation, drainage network density, distance from rivers, permeability, and land use, a final map categorized into different risk intervals was generated. The reliability of this method was confirmed through a flood susceptibility analysis.
