First Results of the Implementation of the Doppler Backscattering Diagnostic for the Investigation of the Transition to H-Mode in the Spherical Tokamak Globus-M2

Anna Ponomarenko et al.

Summary: This paper presents the initial results of a study on the LH transition using DBS diagnostic on the new spherical Globus-M2 tokamak. The study collected and analyzed new data on the H-mode of discharges with higher plasma parameters. The DBS system allowed for the measurement of poloidal rotation velocity, turbulence amplitude, and investigation of turbulence suppression after the H-mode transition.

Doppler backscattering systems on the Globus-M2 tokamak

A. Y. Yashin et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that phenomena such as zonal flows, filaments, and Alfven eigenmodes in the periphery and core region of a tokamak plasma are of great importance. In order to better understand these phenomena, two multifrequency Doppler backscattering (DBS) systems were installed on the upgraded Globus-M2 tokamak, along with a developed code for 3D raytracing simulations. The implementation of radial and poloidal correlation Doppler reflectometry was investigated for different angles of incidence and electron density distributions.

Energy confinement in the spherical tokamak Globus-M2 with a toroidal magnetic field reaching 0.8 T

G. S. Kurskiev et al.

Summary: This work presents the results of an energy confinement study conducted on the compact spherical tokamak Globus-M2. It was found that increasing the magnetic field can lead to a transition to the H-mode and a decrease in plasma turbulence. Neutral beam injection was effective in heating the plasma and increasing the stored energy. The study also confirmed the dependence of energy confinement on the magnetic field and showed that the enhancement of energy confinement is associated with a decrease in collisionality.

The Influence of Fast Particles on Plasma Rotation in the TUMAN-3M Tokamak

Alexander Yashin et al.

Summary: In most modern tokamaks, heating power is predominantly provided by sources such as neutral-beam injection (NBI) and other auxiliary heating methods that transfer energy to the plasma through externally introduced fast particles. The behavior of these fast ions is crucial for understanding plasma dynamics and is essential for the success of future magnetic confinement devices. Observations in the TUMAN-3M tokamak show that the loss of fast particles during NBI can cause significant changes in rotation velocity profiles due to their role in generating negative radial electric fields at the periphery.

Doppler backscattering diagnostic with dual homodyne detection on the Globus-M compact spherical tokamak

V. V. Bulanin et al.

Summary: This article discusses the use of a four-frequency microwave Doppler backscattering system in the compact spherical tokamak Globus-M, with hardware adequate for studying the peripheral plasma. The multichannel DBS system is based on duplicating a dual homodyne detection circuit for four incident Ka-band frequencies, with specific requirements for antenna tilt adjustments. Experimental results using DBS diagnostics on the Globus-M tokamak are presented to demonstrate its efficiency.
