Spray Drift Segmentation for Intelligent Spraying System Using 3D Point Cloud Deep Learning Framework

Jaehwi Seol et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel spray drift analysis method using 3D deep learning and a mobile LiDAR method to manage and reduce spray drift. LiDAR point clouds were trained with the PointNet++ model to classify and segment spraying forms in orchards, achieving an accuracy of 96.23%. The efficacy of the system was demonstrated through field experiments in a pear orchard, confirming the satisfactory performance of the 3D deep learning-based spray drift analysis method. It is expected that this system can effectively measure and manage spray drift.

Reducing ground and airborne drift losses in young apple orchards with PWM-controlled spray systems

Ramon Salcedo et al.

Summary: Field tests showed that Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) solenoid valves, when used in air-blast sprayers with laser-guided or manual control systems, significantly reduced airborne and ground spray drift losses compared to a conventional system with disabled PWM valves. These systems also led to significant reductions in pesticide consumption and off-target drift loss in young apple orchards.

Use of Chitosan and Other Natural Compounds Alone or in Different Strategies with Copper Hydroxide for Control of Grapevine Downy Mildew

Gianfranco Romanazzi et al.

Summary: In this study, the 0.5%/0.8% chitosan formulation proved to be the most effective against grapevine downy mildew (GDM), while combining it with copper hydroxide helped reduce disease incidence. Chitosan serves as a promising alternative for the control of GDM in both organic and integrated disease management systems.

Comparison of UAV and fixed-wing aerial application for alfalfa insect pest control: evaluating efficacy, residues, and spray quality

Xuan Li et al.

Summary: The study compared the effectiveness of multi-rotor UAVs and conventional airplanes in pesticide application in commercial alfalfa production systems in California. The results showed that both methods were comparable in controlling insect pests, residue levels, and spray coverage. This supports the use of small-scale multi-rotor UAVs for pesticide application on agricultural crops, but further optimization is needed for droplet spectrum and short-term fate of droplets.
