Endocrine-disrupting organochlorine xenobiotics in fish products imported from Asia-an assessment of human health risk

Agata Witczak et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the contamination of imported fish fillets with organochlorine pesticides and PCB congeners in Poland. Although almost all pesticides were detected in the tested fish fillets, the estimated weekly intake was lower than the previous TWI value but three times higher than the new TWI values set by EFSA in 2018, raising concerns about consumer health.

Non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyl neurotoxic equivalents found in environmental and human samples

E. B. Holland et al.

Summary: The study compared the applicability of two NDL PCB neurotoxic equivalency schemes, finding that a multiple mechanistic NEQ predicts higher neurotoxic exposure concentrations than a scheme based on the RyR alone. Categorizing PCBs based on ortho groups instead of homologues led to a higher prediction of neurotoxic exposure concentrations, especially for the mMOA.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides, and metals in olive: analysis and probabilistic risk assessment

Seyedeh Faezeh Taghizadeh et al.

Summary: The study found that levels of pesticides, metals, and PAHs in Iranian olive samples did not vary significantly among different cultivars and cultivation zones, posing minimal health risks to Iranian consumers. Sensitivity analysis indicated that contaminant concentrations had the most significant effect on both carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic risks.

Effect of a packaging material type on PAHs contents in oils and water

Artur Ciemniak et al.

Summary: This study determined the effect of packaging material on the removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from stored liquid media. Polyethylene packaging showed the most significant reduction in PAHs content, and LDPE was the most effective in PAHs absorption compared to HDPE, PET, and glass. Re-using LDPE, HDPE, and PET packagings previously contaminated with PAHs showed that effective washing with household detergents was impossible.
