Disorder-induced 2D superconductivity in a NbTiN film grown on Si by ultrahigh-vacuum magneton sputtering

Sheng-Zong Chen et al.

Summary: We grew and characterized a niobium titanium nitride (NbTiN) film on a Si substrate using ultrahigh vacuum sputtering. The superconducting transition temperature was found to be lower than that of high-quality NbTiN films. Interestingly, we observed a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless-like transition, indicating a two-dimensional signature in our three-dimensional sample.

Direct evidence for Cooper pairing without a spectral gap in a disordered superconductor above Tc

Koen M. Bastiaans et al.

Summary: Through scanning tunneling noise spectroscopy, it was found that preformed Cooper pairs may exist in a disordered superconductor at temperatures much higher than the zero-resistance critical temperature. Spectroscopic analysis revealed that the spectroscopic gap in this state fills up rather than closes as temperature increases.

Quantum magnetic monopole condensate

M. C. Diamantini et al.

Summary: The authors demonstrate that magnetic monopoles emerge as excitations in condensed matter systems and can form a quantum Bose condensate as a superinsulating state dual to superconductivity. This condensate is composed of charge Cooper pair condensate.

Signatures of two-dimensional superconductivity emerging within a three-dimensional host superconductor

Carolina Parra et al.

Summary: Spatially resolved scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements on the 3D superconductor BaPb1-xBixO3 reveal key signatures of emergent electronic granularity, previously only conjectured and observed in 2D thin-film systems. These signatures include emergent superconducting domains, finite energy gap, and enhanced spatial anticorrelation between pairing amplitude and gap magnitude near the superconductor-insulator transition. This suggests the presence of 2D superconducting behavior within a conventional 3D s-wave host, hinting at an unexplained interdimensional phenomenon.
