2D conjugated metal-organic framework as a proton-electron dual conductor

Ji Yong Choi et al.

Summary: In this study, a Zn-based dual-conductive metal-organic framework (MOF), Zn-HHTP-H2O, was developed, which can simultaneously conduct electrons and protons. The Zn node with axial H2O ligands induces proton transport, while the in-plane HHTP coordination enables electron transport. The weak binding of the axial H2O ligand allows for functionalization through post-synthetic ligand substitution. Zn-HHTP-H2O exhibits electrical and proton conductivities of 4.5×10(-2) S cm (-1) and 1.6×10(-5) S cm (-1), respectively, at 343 K and 95% RH. Post-synthetic urea treatment increases the proton conductivity of Zn-HHTP-H2O by 10 times, while the electrical conductivity remains the same. This system provides a chemically intriguing platform for the development of dual-conducting materials.

Single-Crystalline Ultrathin 2D Porous Nanosheets of Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks

Yuhao Liu et al.

Summary: Highly ordered two-dimensional (2D) materials with in-plane nanopores are important for various applications, but their synthesis and characterization remain challenging. This study shows that ultrathin 2D MOF nanosheets with intrinsic porosity can be prepared by exfoliating layered MOFs. The nanosheets can be incorporated into polymer matrices to form mixed-matrix membranes, and their fluorescence can be quenched by chiral terpenes for chiral optical sensing applications.

High-Performance Ammonium Cobalt Phosphate Nanosheet Electrocatalyst for Alkaline Saline Water Oxidation

Zhongxin Song et al.

Summary: A novel 2D nanosheet ammonium cobalt phosphate hydrate catalyst has been developed for efficient oxygen evolution in alkaline saline water electrolysis, achieving high current densities at record-low overpotentials. The activation of Co (II) ions to Co (III) species constructs electrocatalytic active sites, providing larger active surface area and more surface-exposed active sites for facilitating oxidation reactions. The environmentally-benign synthesis route and cost-effective alternative to noble metals make this catalyst highly feasible for practical manufacturing.

The Restructuring-Induced CoOx Catalyst for Electrochemical Water Splitting

Maoyu Wang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that transition metal sulfide catalysts can restructure into oxide clusters during catalytic reactions, promoting high activity. In the case of Co9S8 catalyst, it ultimately transforms into CoOx clusters with six oxygen-coordinated Co octahedra as the true catalytic center. Multi-model operando characterizations help to uncover the true structure-property relationship in in situ generated catalysts, providing insights for designing efficient electrocatalysts based on transition metals that undergo similar restructuring in reactions like the oxygen evolution reaction.
