Theoretical Demonstration of Hot-Carrier Operation in an Ultrathin Solar Cell

Nicolas Cavassilas et al.

Summary: This work presents a quantum modeling approach to investigate the performance of ultra-thin solar cells. The study reveals that the open-circuit voltage can be improved without compromising the current by incorporating an energy-selective contact, which induces a hot-carrier effect. Furthermore, the research shows that the current through an energy-selective contact remains comparable to that without selectivity. The findings emphasize the importance of quantum confinement in achieving such improvement.

Enhancement of hot carrier effect and signatures of confinement in terms of thermalization power in quantum well solar cell

I Makhfudz et al.

Summary: A theoretical model is developed to assess carrier thermalization in two-dimensional systems, specifically in III-V hot-carrier solar cells with a quantum well absorber. The study shows that the thermalization power density is reduced in two-dimensional systems compared to bulk, demonstrating a confinement-induced enhancement of the hot carrier effect in quantum wells.

Hot-carrier optoelectronic devices based on semiconductor nanowires

Jonatan Fast et al.

Summary: In optoelectronic devices, hot carriers with excess kinetic energy are challenging to harness due to their short-lived nature. Semiconductor nanowires show promise in increasing hot carrier relaxation time and enabling efficient hot-carrier extraction, offering unique opportunities for heterostructure engineering and modified phononic properties.更高效的,热载流子能量的利用是非常具有挑战性的,可能需要很高的技术含量,才能在光电子器件中实现这一功能。

Hot carriers in graphene - fundamentals and applications

Mathieu Massicotte et al.

Summary: Hot charge carriers in graphene exhibit unique physical properties due to its linear energy-momentum dispersion, phonon properties, all-interface character, and tunability of carrier density. There has been increasing interest in technological applications involving hot carriers in graphene, particularly in optical and optoelectronic applications. These applications could have disruptive impacts in areas such as data communication, high-frequency electronics, and industrial quality control.
