Antennal morphology and sensilla ultrastructure of Ascia monuste (Linnaeus) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae)

Guilherme Martins Limberger et al.

Summary: Insects possess cuticular sensory structures called sensilla, connected directly to the nervous system for environmental perception. The study described the antennal sensilla morphology and types in the great southern white butterfly, highlighting differences between sexes in terms of sensilla types and number of flagellomeres. The unique structure of the capitate antenna and the distribution of sensilla on the antennae were also discussed.

Morphology and distribution of antennal sensilla in the gall midge Gephyraulus lycantha (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae)

Fan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the external morphology and ultrastructure of the antennae and antennal sensilla of the gall midge Gephyraulus lycantha were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Results revealed significant sexual dimorphism in antenna length and sensilla types, with different numbers of sensilla observed in male and female antennae. These findings provide important insights for future research on chemical communication and control strategies for G. lycantha, as well as potential new taxonomic characters for cecidomyiidae species.

Antennal Sensilla of Chrysis shanghalensis (Hymenoptera: Chrysididae), a Larval Ectoparasite of Monema flavescens (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae)

Shu Z. Yang et al.

Summary: The external morphology of antennal sensilla of Chrysis shanghalensis was examined using scanning electron microscopy, revealing a geniculate shape and 14 different types of sensilla, including cuticular pore. These findings provide valuable insights into the sensory mechanisms of this ectoparasitoid.
