Quercetin targets VCAM1 to prevent diabetic cerebrovascular endothelial cell injury

Jiebin Huang et al.

Summary: Endothelial cell subtypes, particularly the EC_EndMT subtype, play complex roles in neurodegenerative diseases caused by diabetes. Through mechanisms involved in cell-cell communication, Vcam1 is identified as a key player in the dysregulation of biological functions of EC_EndMT. Molecular docking results suggest that quercetin may be an effective drug for targeting Vcam1 protein.

An Overview of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Pathogenesis, Classification, and Management

Muhammad Atif Ameer et al.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease that involves multiple systems and is influenced by epigenetic, genetic, ecological, and environmental factors. It primarily activates both innate and adaptive immunity, leading to autoreactive B cell activation by T cells and immune complex deposition in tissues. SLE can present with a wide range of clinical manifestations, from mild self-resolving symptoms to severe life-threatening organ involvement. Clinical and serological heterogeneity poses a significant challenge in diagnosing SLE, with antinuclear antibodies (ANA) being a common serological marker. The improved classification by the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) enables accurate diagnosis of SLE, and treatment focuses on achieving remission, preventing organ damage, and improving quality of life.

Bioactive Herbal Extracts of Traditional Chinese Medicine Applied with the Biomaterials: For the Current Applications and Advances in the Musculoskeletal System

Haotao Li et al.

Summary: Traditional Chinese medicine has shown superior therapeutic effects for musculoskeletal diseases, and recent advances in using herbal extracts of TCM in musculoskeletal tissue engineering have been promising. The bioactive herbal extracts of TCM have the potential to regulate multiple signaling pathways in osteogenesis, angiogenesis, anti-inflammation, and chondrogenesis, making TCM an attractive candidate for extensive application in MTE. The combination of traditional Chinese medicine with advanced additive manufacturing technology appears to offer great potential.

TLR1/2 Agonist Enhances Reversal of HIV-1 Latency and Promotes NK Cell-Induced Suppression of HIV-1-Infected Autologous CD4+ T Cells

Siqin Duan et al.

Summary: The novel TLR1/2 agonist SMU-Z1 was shown to effectively eliminate HIV-1 latent reservoirs by activating NK cells, increasing gamma interferon production to block HIV-1-infected CD4(+) lymphocytes without global T cell activation. This dual-function approach of SMU-Z1 demonstrates promise for eradication of HIV-1 reservoirs in combination with therapeutic vaccines or broadly neutralizing antibody treatments.
