Pushing the Limits of Functionality-Multiplexing Capability in Metasurface Design Based on Statistical Machine Learning

Wei Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a new approach is proposed for the automatic design of multifunctional metasurfaces by embedding machine learning models in optimization loops. Unlike traditional methods, this end-to-end framework maximizes the design space and pushes the multifunctional design capacity to its limit, resulting in experimentally demonstrated metasurface focusing lenses and holograms. The data-driven scheme shows superior capability in photonics design and has the potential to accelerate the development of complex devices and systems for optical display, communication, and computing.

Plexcitonic Quantum Light Emission from Nanoparticle-on-Mirror Cavities

Rocio Saez-Blazquez et al.

Summary: We investigate the quantum-optical properties of the light emitted by a nanoparticle-on-mirror cavity filled with a single quantum emitter. We reveal that the rich plasmonic spectrum of the nanocavity offers unexplored mechanisms for nonclassical light generation that are more efficient than the resonant interaction between the emitter natural transition and the brightest optical mode. Finally, we illustrate the power of our approach by showing that the introduction of a second emitter in the platform can enhance photon correlations further.

Radiative coupling of two quantum emitters in arbitrary metallic nanostructures

JingFeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a general formalism to efficiently calculate the coupling matrix element, evolution spectrum, and population evolution of two quantum emitters in arbitrary metallic nanostructures beyond the Weisskopf-Wigner approximation. The formalism is applied to investigate the radiative coupling and decay dynamics of two quantum emitters embedded in the two hot spots of three silver nano-spheroids. The results show that strong radiative coupling is achieved in this metallic nanostructure despite its strong plasmon damping, as evidenced by vacuum Rabi oscillation in population evolution and anti-crossing behavior in evolution spectrum.

Inverse-designed dielectric cloaks for entanglement generation

Alberto Miguel-Torcal et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the generation of entanglement between two quantum emitters by inverse-design engineering of their photonic environment. We use a topology-optimization approach to create dielectric cloaks at different inter-emitter distances and incoherent pumping strengths. The structures obtained maximize the dissipative coupling between the emitters and yield steady-state concurrence values that are significantly higher than those achievable in free space. We demonstrate that the entanglement enabled by our devices approaches the limit of maximum-entangled-mixed-states.

Neural-adjoint method for the inverse design of all-dielectric metasurfaces

Yang Deng et al.

Summary: All-dielectric metasurfaces exhibit exotic electromagnetic responses similar to metal-based metamaterials. While machine learning has shown impressive results in design, finding the geometry that produces the desired spectra remains a challenging task. A method has been proposed to accurately solve ill-posed inverse problems, with a specific example demonstrated in finding the metasurface geometry matching the external quantum efficiency of gallium antimonide.

Few-Mode Field Quantization of Arbitrary Electromagnetic Spectral Densities

Ivan Medina et al.

Summary: The study presents a framework for describing the interaction between a single quantum emitter and an arbitrary electromagnetic environment using a few-mode master equation. The field quantization requires fitting the spectral density obtained from classical electromagnetic simulations to a model involving lossy and interacting modes. The power and validity of this approach are illustrated by describing population and electric field spatial dynamics in the spontaneous decay of an emitter placed in a complex hybrid plasmonic-photonic structure.
