Engineering Self-Assembling Protein Nanoparticles for Therapeutic Delivery

Audrey Olshefsky et al.

Summary: Although many therapeutic nanomaterials have made remarkable advances, they still face major in vivo delivery barriers. Controlling immunogenicity, optimizing biodistribution, and engineering environmental responsiveness are key challenges. However, self-assembling protein nanoparticles offer a promising solution to these obstacles.

ESCPE-1 mediates retrograde endosomal sorting of the SARS-CoV-2 host factor Neuropilin-1

Boris Simonetti et al.

Summary: Endosomal sorting is important for maintaining cellular homeostasis. The study identified NRP1 as a cargo protein bound and trafficked by the ESCPE-1 complex, which may play a role in intracellular membrane trafficking of NRP1-interacting viruses such as SARS-CoV-2.

Novel Anthracycline Utorubicin for Cancer Therapy

Lorena Simon-Gracia et al.

Summary: The novel anthracycline Utorubicin (UTO) shows promising potential as an anticancer agent, especially when formulated in nanocarriers and functionalized with a tumor-penetrating peptide (TPP). Targeted polymeric nanovesicles (PS) loaded with UTO demonstrated the highest accumulation in tumor tissues in mouse models, suggesting its potential application in precision cancer therapy. Further preclinical and clinical studies are encouraged to explore UTO as a nanocarrier payload for treating malignant diseases.

Bi-Functional Peptides as a New Therapeutic Tool for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Eric Savier et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that bi-functional tumor-penetrating and interfering peptides are internalized in malignant hepatocytes, inducing apoptosis, while having no effect on non-malignant cells. The degree of peptide internalization correlated with receptor expression levels and tumor aggressiveness.

Silver Nanocarriers Targeted with a CendR Peptide Potentiate the Cytotoxic Activity of an Anticancer Drug

Allan Tobi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of affinity-targeted AgNPs as carriers for the cytotoxic compound MMAE. Results showed that RPARPAR-MMAE-AgNPs can selectively induce apoptotic cell death in NRP-1-positive prostate cancer cells, and selectively eliminate NRP-1-positive cells in a mixed cell culture.
