PLGA implants for controlled drug release: Impact of the diameter

C. Bassand et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of the diameter of PLGA-based implants on drug release. The results showed that increasing the implant diameter led to a decrease in drug release rates. The drug exhibited a biphasic release pattern, with a zero-order release followed by a rapid release phase. Increasing the implant diameter also delayed the onset of the rapid release phase.

Enhanced aqueous dissolution of hydrophobic apixaban via direct incorporation of hydrophilic nanographene oxide

Mohammad Saiful Islam et al.

Summary: In this study, the direct incorporation of nanographene oxide (nGO) into a hydrophobic drug was found to improve the drug's dissolution performance. The addition of nGO reduced the dissolution time and increased the dissolution rate of the drug. The hydrophilic dispersion of nGO created hydrophilic channels on the drug crystal surfaces, leading to decreased lipophilicity and increased aqueous solubility of the drug.

Fluorinated Polymeric Surfactant with a Pluronic-like Structure and Its Application as a Drug Carrier

Binxiao Wei et al.

Summary: Pluronics, the first commercially used polymeric surfactants designed by BASF, have been applied in pharmaceutical formulations and drug delivery. A hydrophobic monomer EPTF was synthesized using the Williamson ether synthesis reaction, and ABA triblock amphiphilic polymers with Pluronic-like structure were synthesized through living cationic polymerization. These polymeric surfactants can reduce water surface tension, self-assemble into micelles with low critical micelle concentration, and effectively load hydrophobic anticancer drugs like baicalin for enhanced therapeutic efficacy.
