Resonant energy transfer between rare earth atomic layers in nanolaminate films

Kang Yuan et al.

Summary: Forster resonant energy transfer plays a significant role in the properties of matter. This study derives the resonant energy transfer rate based on the electric potential in a system with interacting dipoles. The results show a distance dependency of R-2 between dipole layers, differing from previous evaluations. The experimental analysis of Al2O3 nanolaminates doped with rare earth atoms confirms the theoretical findings, providing crucial insights for biosensing and photonic material design.

Electroluminescent polycrystalline Er-doped Lu3Al5O12 nanofilms fabricated by atomic layer deposition on silicon

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: Sub-nanometer composition and interlayer thicknesses of silicon-based Lu2O3/Al2O3 nanolaminates were controlled by atomic layer deposition to fabricate polycrystalline Er-doped LuAG:Er nano-films and enhance their electroluminescence performance. The Lu:Al ratio strongly influences the crystallization and morphology of the garnet nanofilms, with higher ratios leading to crystallization into micrometer grains after annealing above 900 degrees C.

Bright red electroluminescence from Al2O3/Eu2O3 nanolaminate films fabricated by atomic layer deposition on silicon

Yuanyuan Wang et al.

Summary: Silicon-based metal-oxide-semiconductor light-emitting devices (MOSLEDs) utilizing Al2O3/Eu2O3 nanolaminate films exhibit high external quantum efficiency and power efficiency, with red electroluminescence originating from impact excitation by hot electrons. Low annealing temperature helps suppress Eu clustering in the material.
