Sub-nanometer mapping of strain-induced band structure variations in planar nanowire core-shell heterostructures

Sara Marti-Sanchez et al.

Summary: The curvature and morphology of the core affect the growth of the shell and induce electronic band modulations in ZnSe@ZnTe nanowires. The relaxation mechanisms of strain during epitaxial growth play a crucial role in determining the morphologies, crystal structures, and properties of core-shell nanostructures. The core morphology influences the formation of the shell involving plane bending and the creation of low-angle polar boundaries.

Toward laser-induced tuning of plasmonic response in high aspect ratio gold nanostructures

Mario Pelaez-Fernandez et al.

Summary: High aspect-ratio gold nanostructures exhibit Fabry-Perot-like surface plasmon responses from infrared to visible light energies and can be tuned by laser irradiation. The plasmonic behavior of these nanostructures has been characterized using advanced analysis techniques, demonstrating the selective tuning of plasmonic modes within a specific spectral range.

High spatial and energy resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy of the magnetic and electric excitations in plasmonic nanorod oligomers

Grace Pakeltis et al.

Summary: This study leverages the high spatial and energy resolution of monochromated aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy to investigate the hybridization of cyclic assemblies of plasmonic gold nanorods. The experiments and simulations reveal the coupling of long-axis dipole modes into collective magnetic and electric dipole plasmon resonances, with findings on the energy splitting of the magnetic mode and antibonding modes for oligomers with different polygon edges. Optically, it was found that the extinction efficiencies of electric and magnetic modes are maximized in the n=4 arrangement among the oligomers studied.

Angular Scattered Light Intensity of Dipole-Multipole Plasmonic Hybridization

Min Xi et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the optical response of a dipole-multipole coupled gold nanorod dimer structure, revealing redshifted bonding and blueshifted antibonding modes due to the coupling behavior of D-M resonances. The antibonding modes of Au NR dimers closely resemble multipolar resonances of the Au NR monomer, showing almost identical optical properties.

Summary: This study explores the optoelectronic characteristics and switching behavior of a monolithically integrated silicon light-emitting device (LED), showing that Si FE LED exhibits lower distortion and light emission enhancement, making it suitable for high-frequency ON-OFF keying. Additionally, TCAD simulations align with experimental results, indicating potential applications in integrating Si FE LED into micro-photonic systems.

Initiation and Progression of Anisotropic Galvanic Replacement Reactions in a Single Ag Nanowire: Implications for Nanostructure Synthesis

Silvia Canepa et al.

Summary: The galvanic replacement reaction is a convenient method for synthesizing hollow/porous noble metal nanostructures with applications in energy, health, and the environment. Using liquid-phase scanning transmission electron microscopy (LPSTEM), it was found that the reaction is highly selective based on exposed surface facets and is influenced by internal crystal domains.
