Influence of the NaIO4 Concentration on the Gelation and the Adhesive Strength of Pyrocatechol/Pyrogallol Containing Gelatin Hydrogels

Florence Back et al.

Summary: The study investigated the addition of pyrocatechol and pyrogallol to gelatin solution to form hydrogels, showing that the addition of pyrocatechol significantly improved the adhesion strength and stability of the gel at 50 degrees Celsius, while the addition of pyrogallol did not enhance the adhesion strength. The differences between pyrocatechol and pyrogallol modified gels were explained based on the electrophilicity of the oxidized polyphenols.

Self-consistent Hubbard parameters from density-functional perturbation theory in the ultrasoft and projector-augmented wave formulations

Iurii Timrov et al.

Summary: The study extends the calculation of Hubbard parameters, including onsite Hubbard U and intersite Hubbard V, using the DFPT method, and generalizes the formalism from norm-conserving to ultrasoft and projector-augmented wave formulations. Through benchmarking DFPT against conventional real-space Hubbard linear response, the effectiveness of the extended Hubbard formulation in determining the crystal structure and energetics of Li intercalation is demonstrated.
