Bio-sorbent from castor oil polyurethane foam containing cellulose-halloysite nanocomposite for removal of manganese, nickel and cobalt ions from water

Philipe Augusto Pocidonio Silva et al.

Summary: In order to mitigate water contamination caused by mining dam failures in Brazil, eco-friendly bio-based castor oil polyurethane foams containing a cellulose-halloysite green nanocomposite were prepared. The efficiency, capacity, and kinetics of adsorption for manganese, nickel, and cobalt ions at pH= 2 and pH= 6.5 were investigated. The results showed a significant increase in adsorption capacity and efficiency for the polyurethane foams containing the nanocomposite compared to the control foam.
