Dopant mediated augmentation of nanotwinning and anomalous emission behaviour

Tania Kalsi et al.

Summary: The influence of copper as a metallic dopant on the properties of CdS colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) prepared by chemical co-precipitation method is investigated. Dopant induced changes in microstructural defects, twinning angle, stress generation, and emission behavior are noticed. The substitution of Cu in mixed oxidation states and the competitive intensity variation between band edge emission and intrinsic defect assisted emission are observed.

Enhancement of Structural, Optical and Photoelectrochemical Properties of n-Cu2O Thin Films with K Ions Doping toward Biosensor and Solar Cell Applications

Mahmoud Abdelfatah et al.

Summary: N-type Cu2O thin films were grown on FTO substrates using a low-cost electrodeposition method. The doping of the thin films with K ions was confirmed through various measurement techniques. The results showed the presence of Cu2O and CuO phases in the fabricated samples, with changes in crystallinity and morphology observed with different doping concentrations. The optical properties indicated interband transitions in Cu2O and oxygen vacancies in CuO, with the absorption edge positioned between 425 and 460 nm. Photocurrent measurements revealed the characteristic behavior of n-type semiconductors, with enhanced photocurrent at higher doping concentrations. Mott-Schottky and EIS measurements provided information on the flat band potential, donor density, and resistivity to charge transfer, with the lowest values observed at 0.1 M concentration of K ions. Overall, the results suggest that doping n-Cu2O thin films have potential applications in biosensors and photovoltaics.

Influence of Deposition Time on Structural, Morphological, and Optical Properties of CdS Thin Films Grown by Low-Cost Chemical Bath Deposition

Abdelhamid El-Shaer et al.

Summary: CdS thin films were prepared on glass substrates using low-cost and low-temperature chemical bath deposition. The effect of deposition time on the properties of the films was investigated. The results showed that CdS thin films exhibited cubic and hexagonal structures with an average crystal size ranging from 21-50 nm. The films also had a hierarchical nanoflake structure. The CdS thin films showed characteristic vibration modes, absorption edges near 500 nm, and a main peak centered at 537 nm, indicating their potential for optoelectronic applications.

Asmaa Soheil Najm et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the understanding of response mechanisms in the formation of CdS thin films and its effectiveness as a buffer material for polycrystalline solar cells. Experimental and numerical simulations were conducted, revealing that different thiourea concentrations had a direct impact on the characteristics of the CdS buffer layer. Ion-by-ion mechanism played a significant role in the formation of CdS films, and the optic-electrical properties of the buffer layer greatly influenced the performance of CIGS solar cells.

Preparation and characterization of CdS prepared by hydrothermal method

Hadia Kadhim Judran et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Cd2+ source concentration on various characteristics of CdS films prepared by hydrothermal technique. The films exhibited a unique structure with a mix of cubic and hexagonal system, as revealed by X-ray diffraction and FE-SEM analysis. Changing the CdSO4 molarity reduced the electrical resistivity, and the best ratio of photocurrent to dark current was found in films prepared with 0.12 M CdS. This suggests that such films can be valuable for photodetector device applications.
