Trend of circulating CD34+ cells in patients with myelofibrosis: Association with spleen response during ruxolitinib treatment

Alessandra Iurlo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the changes in CD34(+) cells in MF patients and examined their association with spleen response. The results showed a progressive reduction in CD34(+) cell count during ruxolitinib therapy. The increase in CD34(+) cell count was found to be associated with an increase in spleen length, according to multivariable regression analysis.

Structure-Based Cyclic Glycoprotein Ibα-Derived Peptides Interfering with von Willebrand Factor-Binding, Affecting Platelet Aggregation under Shear

Johana Hrdinova et al.

Summary: This study designed and synthesized stable cyclic peptides to interfere with the interaction between VWF A1 domain and GPIb alpha. The selected peptides showed low binding free energy and retained their interference in the binding of VWF to GPIb-V-IX, as confirmed by flow cytometry. These peptides phenotypically mimicked the changes seen with the anti-VWF A1 domain antibody CLB-RAg35, although they were less potent. The improved peptide opt-mono-ORbIT demonstrated increased inhibitory activity under flow.

Association between circulating CD34-positive cell count and height loss among older men

Yuji Shimizu et al.

Summary: Height loss starting in middle age is significantly associated with death due to cardiovascular disease. This study found that circulating CD34-positive cell count was inversely associated with height loss, suggesting that a lower number of CD34-positive cells may contribute to impaired microcirculation and ultimately affect height.

Inherited Platelet Disorders: An Updated Overview

Veronica Palma-Barqueros et al.

Summary: Platelets are essential for hemostasis, and inherited platelet disorders (IPDs) are rare genetic diseases with variable clinical manifestations, where early diagnosis and close patient follow-up are crucial. Genetic diagnosis is important for proper clinical management, and although advances have been made in diagnosis, there are still ethical concerns regarding genetic investigations.
