A timeline of the Cenozoic tectonic-magmatic-metamorphic evolution and development of ore resources in the Himalayas

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The four Cenozoic geological processes in the Himalayas, including tectonics, metamorphism, magmatic activity, and mineralization, have a significant impact on the metallogenic process. The formation of orogenic belts and the collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates controlled the tectonic, metamorphic, magmatic events, and ore formation in the Himalayas. The study shows that the uplift of the middle-lower crust and the large-scale leucogranite movement in the upper crust during the Miocene are closely related to the widespread development of tungsten, tin, lithium, beryllium, lead, zinc, silver, antimony, and gold ore.

Chemical and boron isotopic variations of tourmaline deciphering magmatic-hydrothermal evolution at the Gejiu Sn-polymetallic district, South China

Jia Guo et al.

Summary: The study investigates the source, evolution, and processes related to ore formation of the Gejiu Sn-polymetallic district using tourmaline compositions. It reveals that ore formation is influenced by magmatic differentiation and late-stage fluid exsolution. The compositions of tourmaline serve as ideal tracers to understand the magmatic-hydrothermal evolution, providing insights for potential prospecting guide for Sn-W deposits.

Geochemistry of tourmaline from granitic pegmatites in East Qinling and its implications for mineralization

Feng YongGang et al.

Summary: In this study, the compositional variation of black tourmaline from different types of pegmatites in the East Qinling region was investigated. The results showed that the geochemical characteristics of tourmaline can serve as a mineralization indicator. Li, Mn, Zn, and F concentrations in schorl tourmaline increase with increasing differentiation degree of the pegmatites, and they exhibit a negative correlation with tourmaline delta(11) B. This provides a potential tool for indicating various pegmatite-hosted rare-element mineralization in the region.

Chemical composition of tourmaline in orogenic gold deposits

Marjorie Sciuba et al.

Summary: Tourmaline from 18 orogenic gold deposits was analyzed using EPMA and LA-ICP-MS to establish geochemical features for indicator mineral surveys in gold exploration. The major element composition of tourmaline is influenced by hydrothermal fluids, while trace elements are controlled by country rock composition and metamorphic facies. Tourmaline from orogenic gold deposits has distinct elemental compositions compared to other deposit types.

In-situ boron isotopic and geochemical compositions of tourmaline from the Shangbao Nb-Ta bearing monzogranite, Nanling Range: Implication for magmatic-hydrothermal evolution of Nb and Ta

Zhuang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated different types of tourmaline in Shangbao Nb-Ta deposit, identifying the origin, boron source, and Nb-Ta enrichment process based on major, trace elemental and boron isotope analyses. The results revealed that tourmaline precipitated from melt at late magmatic stage, crystallized during magmatic-hydrothermal transition, or originated from hydrothermal fluid, each showing distinct boron sources. High Nb and Ta contents in tourmaline from Shangbao monzogranite suggest its potential as an exploration tool for targeting Nb and Ta mineralization.

Lithium isotope behavior during magmatic differentiation and fluid exsolution in the Jiajika granite-pegmatite deposit, Sichuan, China

Huijuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The Jiajika lithium deposit in Sichuan Province is the largest of its kind in China, and the petrogenesis and metallogenesis of the granitic pegmatites in the deposit have been debated. This study reveals that the Li-rich and Li-poor pegmatites in the deposit were the result of extreme fractional crystallization of two-mica granitic magmas, rather than direct anatectic melts. Additionally, fluid exsolution during melt-fluid separation played a significant role in causing Li isotopic fractionation in the late stage of granitic magma evolution, contributing to the formation of the large lithium deposit.

Genetic relationship between greisenization and Sn-W mineralizations in vein and greisen deposits: Insights from the Panasqueira deposit (Portugal)

Gaetan Launay et al.

Summary: The W-Sn Panasqueira ore deposit is a magmatic-hydrothermal system, with high grade quartz-vein type mineralization and disseminated greisen-type mineralization, where similar compositions suggest a genetic link between greisenization and the mineralized veins formation, occurring during the magmatic-hydrothermal transition at the final stage of solidification of the granite. The greisen is marked by depletion in Mg, Ti, Ca, Na, Ba, Sr, REE and enrichment in Fe, Li, Rb, Cs, Sn, W, reflecting the impact of W-Sn-bearing fluids during greisenization. The U-Pb ages of apatite from greisen and quartz vein confirm the simultaneous occurrence of greisenization and mineralized veins formation, indicating a temporal and genetic link between greisenization, W-Sn mineralization and granite crystallization.
