Copper Recovery from Printed Circuit Boards Using Ammonia-Ammonium Sulphate System: A Sustainable Approach

Silvia C. Pinho et al.

Summary: This study evaluates and tests the copper ammoniacal leaching and electrowinning process in WPCBs. The results show that ammonia-ammonium solutions can selectively dissolve copper, zinc, and nickel in WPCBs, and the pregnant solutions can be used directly for electrowinning with high purity copper products. Shredding WPCBs is crucial for achieving high recovery rates.

Extraction of Gold and Copper from Flotation Tailings Using Glycine-Ammonia Solutions in the Presence of Permanganate

Huan Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a cyanide-free leaching method, glycine-ammonia leaching in the presence of permanganate, for treating low-grade and copper-bearing gold tailings. The addition of glycine, ammonia, and permanganate significantly enhanced gold and copper extractions. The solids content had no significant effect on copper extraction, while gold leaching kinetics was slightly better at lower solids content.

Leaching of a polymetal gold ore and reducing cyanide consumption using cyanide-glycine solutions

Kianoush Barani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the leaching of a polymetal gold ore using a synergistic lixiviant mixture of cyanide and glycine. Increasing cyanide concentration from 500 to 1500 ppm resulted in a higher gold dissolution rate. However, using 0.5-1 M/L glycine in 500 ppm cyanide can achieve 90% gold dissolution with increased copper dissolution.。Reducing cyanide consumption by approximately 80% was achieved at the optimal approach, but increasing glycine concentration also led to higher dissolution of other metals like Pb, Zn, Fe, Ag, and Cu.

The environmental impact assessment of gold extraction processes for discarded computer RAM: a comparative study of two leaching chemicals

Waristha Ponghiran et al.

Summary: The problem of electrical and electronic equipment waste (WEEE) in Thailand should be prioritized due to unpleasant operations. Mismanagement of e-waste caused by illegal transport has intensified concerns about public health and the environment. Comparing two gold leaching processes, cyanide-based solution showed significantly lower terrestrial ecotoxicity and human carcinogenic toxicity compared to aqua regia due to lower chemical consumption. Proper wastewater treatments and a combination of incineration and landfill for solid waste treatment are potential options to minimize environmental impacts.

Ankit et al.

Summary: Electronic waste is a significant part of solid waste management worldwide, containing hazardous components that have adverse effects on plants, microbes, and human beings. Heavy metals are a major toxic component of e-waste, requiring careful handling. Inadequate disposal/treatment technologies for e-waste have direct and indirect impacts on human health and the environment.

Bioleaching of Gold from Silicate Ore by Macrococcus caseolyticus and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus: Effect of Medium, Amino Acids and Growth Supernatant

Kanjana Kudpeng et al.

Summary: The study investigated gold leaching by bacteria isolated from silicate ore, finding that Macrococcus caseolyticus and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus were capable of bioleaching gold. It was observed that amino acids/peptides/proteins produced by microorganisms might play a role in gold bioleaching, with the growth supernatant being more suitable for leaching gold than microorganisms directly. Further research is needed to improve gold leaching efficiency and reduce processing times.
