Polymer affinity with quartz (101) surface in saline solutions: A molecular dynamics study

Gonzalo R. Quezada et al.

Summary: This study aims to understand how the properties of polymers affect their adsorption behavior on a quartz surface. Through simulations, it was found that charged polymers behave differently from neutral polymers in terms of adsorption modes and polymer conformation. Neutral polymers exhibited the highest affinity for the quartz surface, while charged polymers adsorbed in stretched conformations, which facilitated polymer bridging. The adsorption of reagents was influenced by salinity, depending on their electrical charge.

Flocculation of quartz by a dual polymer system containing tannic acid and poly(ethylene oxide): Effect of polymer chemistry and hydrodynamic conditions

Daowei Wang et al.

Summary: The flocculation behaviors of quartz using a dual polymer system containing tannic acid (TAN) and poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) were studied. It was found that the addition of tannic acid significantly enhanced the flocculation efficiency of PEO for quartz. The optimal ratio of tannic acid to PEO was observed to be 2, resulting in the best flocculation of quartz. Tannic acid also increased the strength and shear resistance of the flocs formed by PEO. Additionally, the dual polymer system enabled the re-flocculation of quartz under cycled shear conditions.

Effect of cationic surfactant addition on the electrokinetics and stability of silica/kaolinite suspensions in copper hydrometallurgy conditions

J. Valenzuela-Elgueta et al.

Summary: The study explores the use of dynamic electrophoretic mobility to indirectly evaluate the adsorption of CTAB on silica/kaolinite mixtures under specific conditions. The electroacoustic technique is found to be suitable for predicting the effect of surfactant addition on individual particles and mixtures. The research aims to identify optimal doses of surfactant for flocculating suspensions and separating them from the continuous phase in hydrometallurgy processes.
