Revealing the decomposition mechanisms of dislocations and metastable α′ phase and their effects on mechanical properties in a Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Jinlong Su et al.

Summary: (English Summary:) This study investigates the influence of different cooling methods on the microstructure and dislocation characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy and reveals the decomposition mechanisms of dislocations and metastable alpha' phase and their impact on mechanical properties. The results show that the characteristics of alpha' phase and dislocation density are significantly influenced by the cooling methods. During stabilization annealing treatments, dislocations decompose simultaneously. The decomposition of dislocations and metastable alpha' phase, as well as the formation of specific microstructures during quenching, have a significant influence on the properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

Phase transformation mechanisms, microstructural characteristics and mechanical performances of an additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4V alloy under dual-stage heat treatment

Jinlong Su et al.

Summary: Understanding the phase transformation behaviors and microstructural evolutions during post-heat treatments is crucial for improving the mechanical performances of additively manufactured titanium alloys. This study investigates the effects of distinctive dual-stage heat treatments on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy and demonstrates that the combination of dual-stage heat treatments and salt bath quenching is an effective approach for obtaining fine microstructures and optimized strength and ductility. The study also discusses the influence of phase transformation behaviors and dislocation types on the microstructure and strengthening of the alloy.

Effect of cyclic heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of laser aided additive manufacturing Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloy

Shang Sui et al.

Summary: Cyclic heat treatment (CHT) has been found effective in inducing the formation of globular alpha phases in titanium alloys, improving their ductility. This study investigated suitable CHT procedures for LAAM-built near-alpha titanium alloy Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo to obtain globular alpha phases. The results showed that 980 degrees C is the most suitable upper temperature limit for CHT. However, it is difficult to achieve a high volume fraction of globular alpha phases in the LAAM-built Ti6242 alloys due to their composition gradient.

Unravelling the precipitation evolutions of AZ80 magnesium alloy during non-isothermal and isothermal processes

Longqing Tang et al.

Summary: The precipitation evolutions of AZ80 magnesium alloy involve both discontinuous precipitation and continuous precipitation during non-isothermal and isothermal processes. The precipitation behavior is influenced by thermal history, holding temperature, and time. At lower temperatures, massive DP and CP are gradually formed to equally strengthen the alloy, while at higher temperatures, Ostwald coarsening occurs, leading to a slight softening of the alloy.
