Economic and performance evaluation of electrocoagulation unit for the treatment of hexavalent chromium using Taguchi method

A. Kumar et al.

Summary: This study examined a batch-scale electrocoagulation reactor with fixed aluminium electrodes for the removal of hexavalent chromium from synthetic wastewater. The optimal operating conditions for current density, initial Cr(VI) concentration, and initial pH were determined using the Taguchi method. The results showed that current density, initial Cr(VI) concentration, and initial pH had significant effects on Cr(VI) removal. XRF analysis confirmed the removal of Cr(VI), and the total operational cost was calculated.

Optimization of Removal of Cr(VI) from Wastewater by Electrocoagulation Process Using Response Surface Methodology

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] from a simulated industrial effluent using electrocoagulation technology. The optimal conditions for maximum removal efficiency and minimum energy consumption were determined. Under the optimum conditions, the removal efficiency of Cr(VI) was 89.808% and the specific electrical energy consumption was 0.14 kW center dot h/g Cr(VI) removed.

Simultaneous removal of Cr(VI) and Cu(II) from acid wastewater by electrocoagulation using sacrificial metal anodes

Jianbo Lu et al.

Summary: The electrocoagulation technology with Fe and/or Al anode was investigated for the simultaneous removal of Cr(VI) and Cu(II) from acid wastewater. The Al-Al-Al-Al combination showed the highest removal efficiency among different electrode combinations. The operating cost analysis revealed that the sludge treatment cost accounted for the largest percentage of the operating cost, while energy consumption cost was the lowest.
