Prevalence of efflux pump and heavy metal tolerance encoding genes among Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis strains from diverse sources in Brazil

Felipe Pinheiro Vilela et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of antimicrobial efflux pump and heavy metal tolerance genes in 80 S. Infantis strains from diverse sources in Brazil, and found that these genes were present in most strains. Core-genome multi-locus sequence typing revealed a closer genetic relationship among strains with similar gene profiles.

Genome-Based Assessment of Antimicrobial Resistance and Virulence Potential of Isolates of Non-Pullorum/Gallinarum Salmonella Serovars Recovered from Dead Poultry in China

Yan Li et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the genomic features of antimicrobial resistance and virulence potential in 105 non-Pullorum/Gallinarum Salmonella isolates recovered from dead poultry in Shandong, China. The isolates showed high antimicrobial resistance and harbored different critical virulence genes, highlighting the urgent need for effective strategies to mitigate avian salmonellosis.

WGS-Based Lineage and Antimicrobial Resistance Pattern of Salmonella Typhimurium Isolated during 2000-2017 in Peru

Raquel Hurtado et al.

Summary: This study analyzed 90 Salmonella Typhimurium isolates from 14 cities in Peru using WGS to understand the lineage and antimicrobial resistance pattern. The results showed that the majority of Peruvian isolates belonged to the Typhimurium serovar and the ST19 sequence type. The analysis also revealed high genetic diversity in antimicrobial resistance genes, with several transmissible plasmids carrying third-generation antibiotic resistance genes. Additionally, new mutations associated with nalidixic acid and nitrofurantoin resistance were predicted.

Epidemiological and Bacteriological Investigations Using Whole-Genome Sequencing in a Recurrent Outbreak of Pullorum Disease on a Quail Farm in France

Sophie Le Bouquin et al.

Summary: This study details a recurrent outbreak of pullorum disease on a quail farm in western France in 2019, where epidemiological and bacteriological investigations were used to identify the source of contamination and the possibility of pathogen persistence on the site was highlighted. Recommendations for disease control were proposed based on high-risk sanitary practices identified during the investigation.

Comparative genome analysis of Salmonella enterica serovar Gallinarum biovars Pullorum and Gallinarum decodes strain specific genes

Rajesh Kumar Vaid et al.

Summary: The study used comparative genome analysis to examine genotypic differences among Salmonella enterica serovar Gallinarum strains, revealing an open pan-genome with 5091 coding sequences, including 3270 core-genome sequences and 1254 dispensable genome sequences. The analyzed strains also showed strain-specific genes ranging from 3 to 102. Additionally, diversity was observed in genomic features such as virulence factors, genomic islands, prophage regions, toxin-antitoxin cassettes, and acquired antimicrobial resistance genes.
