Association between basketball playing position and ACTN3 R577X polymorphism in athletes of first division Brazilian Basketball League

Giscard Lima et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between ACTN3 R577X, AGT M268T, ACE I/D, and BDKRB2+9/-9 polymorphisms and basketball playing position. The results showed that height influenced all positions and there was an association between the genetic polymorphisms analyzed and basketball positions. The study found a positive association between ACTN3 R577X polymorphism and basketball playing position, with genotypes related to strength/power performance associated with post players and genotypes related to endurance performance associated with point guard players.

Exome-Wide Association Study of Competitive Performance in Elite Athletes

Celal Bulgay et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify genetic variants associated with personal best scores in Turkish track and field athletes using whole-exome sequencing. Although no significant associations were found in the genotype-phenotype and case-control studies of Turkish athletes, four functional variants were replicated and shown to be associated with various exercise- and sport-related phenotypes.

The Effect of Selected Polymorphisms of the ACTN3, ACE, HIF1A and PPARA Genes on the Immediate Supercompensation Training Effect of Elite Slovak Endurance Runners and Football Players

David Vegh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of selected polymorphisms of the ACTN3, ACE, HIF1A, and PPARA genes on the immediate supercompensation training effect of elite Slovak endurance runners and football players. The study found that the PPARA gene's C allele genotype had an advantage in immediate supercompensation, and there was a significant combined effect of multiple genes. In the control group, specific genotypes of the ACE and HIF1A genes also had an effect on immediate supercompensation. Genotype frequencies were also significantly different.

Evaluation of the soldier's physical fitness test results (strength endurance) in relation to genotype: longitudinal study

Damla Selin Yildirim et al.

Summary: This study examines the effect of ACE gene polymorphism on strength endurance and suggests that this effect may be influenced by external factors and lifestyle choices. Different genotype groups show variations in performance in sit-up and push-up tests, with a significant decrease in scores compared to 2004.

Genetic association research in football: A systematic review

Alexander B. T. McAuley et al.

Summary: Genetic variation plays a significant role in individual performance differences in sports, with football being one of the most commonly studied areas in genetic association research. Although there has been a substantial increase in genetic association research in football over the past four years, there are methodological inconsistencies such as inadequate description of ethnicity and playing positions. Recommendations for future research include improved study designs, larger sample sizes, and the use of genome-wide and polygenic profiling approaches to enhance understanding of genetic influences on football performance.

The MCT1 gene Glu490Asp polymorphism (rs1049434) is associated with endurance athlete status, lower blood lactate accumulation and higher maximum oxygen uptake

Joao Paulo L. F. Guilherme et al.

Summary: This study explores the association of MCT1 gene Glu490Asp polymorphism with athletic status and performance, showing that the T-allele is over-represented in endurance athletes and associated with lower blood lactate accumulation and higher maximal oxygen uptake. Ethnic differences may exist, but the major T-allele favors endurance performance over the mutant A-allele.
