Population genetic structure and association mapping for iron toxicity tolerance in rice

S. Pawar et al.

Summary: Iron toxicity is a major stress in rice production, but genetic variations for tolerance exist. This study mapped QTL controlling stress tolerance and found novel QTL important for marker-assisted breeding programs. The study also showed co-localization of QTL for Fe-toxicity tolerance and Fe-biofortification in rice grain.

Development of Submergence-Tolerant, Bacterial Blight-Resistant, and High-Yielding Near Isogenic Lines of Popular Variety, 'Swarna' Through Marker-Assisted Breeding Approach

Shibani Mohapatra et al.

Summary: By using marker-assisted backcross breeding, advantageous genes were introduced into the Swarna variety, resulting in progenies with higher resistance to bacterial blight and submergence tolerance. Through multiple generations of backcrossing, superior hybrid lines with higher yield and multiple desirable genes were developed, exhibiting enhanced disease resistance and submergence tolerance.
