Fine Mapping of a Major Backfat QTL Reveals a Causal Regulatory Variant Affecting the CCND2 Gene

Haniel C. Oliveira et al.

Summary: Backfat is an important trait in pork production, and excessive fat can result in economic losses. Through genome-wide association analysis, we identified a QTL for backfat thickness located within the third intron of the CCND2 gene, and further discovered core haplotypes associated with low backfat.

Weighted Single-Step GWAS Identified Candidate Genes Associated with Growth Traits in a Duroc Pig Population

Donglin Ruan et al.

Summary: A weighted single-step genome-wide association study was conducted to identify genetic regions associated with growth traits in pigs, with the most significant regions explaining a substantial portion of genetic variance. Twenty-one candidate genes related to metabolism, bone growth, and fat deposition were identified, and they were found to be involved in bone formation, the immune system, and digestion. Utilizing phenotypic, genotypic, and genealogical information will aid in accelerating genetic improvement of growth traits in pigs.

Biallelic DAB1 Variants Are Associated With Mild Lissencephaly and Cerebellar Hypoplasia

Daphne J. Smits et al.

Summary: Using whole-exome sequencing, pathogenic variants in a girl with epilepsy and other symptoms were identified as compound heterozygous splice variants in DAB1, potentially linked to the brain structural abnormalities observed. Functional studies confirmed the role of these variants in causing the patient's condition.

ANKRD22 is an N-myristoylated hairpin-like monotopic membrane protein specifically localized to lipid droplets

Toshihiko Utsumi et al.

Summary: The N-myristoylated protein ANKRD22 is synthesized on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and initially localizes to lipid droplets, with its hairpin-like monotopic topology and positively charged residues at the C-terminus playing crucial roles in its sorting process from the ER to LD.

Genome-wide association studies for production, respiratory disease, and immune-related traits in Landrace pigs

Yoshinobu Uemoto et al.

Summary: This study identified novel quantitative trait loci (QTL) related to various production, respiratory disease, and immune-related traits in Landrace pigs through genotyping and genome-wide association studies. Most of the detected QTL regions were novel with potential candidate genes. When examining pleiotropic QTL across traits, only a few regions overlapped, indicating that many regions independently influenced traits.
