Heart Rate Variability Analysis to Evaluate Autonomic Nervous System Maturation in Neonates: An Expert Opinion

Hugues Patural et al.

Summary: Heart rate variability is a tool used to assess the physiological autonomic maturation in newborns and diagnose risks of diseases. By evaluating heart rate variability, high-risk children can be identified and benefit from home cardiorespiratory monitoring. Monitoring heart rate variability can objectively reflect the newborn's capacity for cardiorespiratory self-regulation.

Echocardiographic predictors of symptomatic cardiotoxicity among patients undergoing chemotherapy: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Muhammad Umer Siddiqui et al.

Summary: This study investigates the predictive value of global longitudinal strain (GLS) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in symptomatic cardiotoxicity among patients receiving chemotherapy. The pooled results indicate that LVEF is not a significant predictor of symptomatic cardiotoxicity, while GLS is a strong predictor. However, there is currently insufficient evidence to conclude whether GLS is superior to LVEF.

Chemotherapy and Radiation-Associated Cardiac Autonomic Dysfunction

Alexandra E. Teng et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction among cancer survivors is a complex issue with poorly understood mechanisms. Current diagnostic modalities have limitations but serve as objective markers for diagnosis and tracking treatment response. Further studies are needed to better understand the specific mechanisms of cardiovascular AD in the cancer population.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia in Children-Predictable or Random?

Paulina Lubocka et al.

Summary: The study found that RSA in children is changeable, but its measurable indices should be adjusted to heart rate. Among the participants, the decrease in RSA, defined by RMSSDc and SDNNc, was 68.3% and 64.2%, respectively. Students with RSA at both visits showed lower heart rate and systolic blood pressure compared to those with rhythmic electrocardiograms.
