Integrin β1/Cell Surface GRP78 Complex Regulates TGFβ1 and Its Profibrotic Effects in Response to High Glucose

Jackie Trink et al.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a major cause of kidney failure worldwide, characterized by glomerular sclerosis. High glucose plays a key role in promoting matrix production in glomerular mesangial cells. The study identifies the interaction between glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) and integrin beta 1 as an important signaling pathway in mediating fibrotic responses in kidney cells under high glucose conditions. Inhibiting their interaction may be a potential therapeutic target for preventing fibrosis progression in DKD.
