Effects of Pregnancy and Breastfeeding on Clinical Outcomes and MRI Measurements of Women with Multiple Sclerosis: An Exploratory Real-World Cohort Study

Lorena Lorefice et al.

Summary: This study explored the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding on short- and long-term outcomes for women with multiple sclerosis (MS). The results showed that post-partum clinical activity was associated with clinical activity before conception and duration of breastfeeding. Having had at least one pregnancy during MS was linked to a lower EDSS score, while breastfeeding duration longer than 6 months was associated with lower white matter volume.

Why women have more autoimmune diseases than men: An evolutionary perspective

Vanessa L. Kronzer et al.

Summary: Women have a higher risk of autoimmune diseases compared to men, possibly due to differences in circulating antibodies. This may be linked to an evolutionary mechanism of protecting offspring from infections, which could explain the prevalence of autoimmunity in women and open up new treatment possibilities.
