Altered Functional Connectivity of Ventral Striatum Subregions in De-novo Parkinson's Disease with Depression

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the altered functional connectivity of ventral striatum subregions in depression in Parkinson's disease (DPD). The results revealed that DPD patients showed significantly increased functional connectivity between the left ventral caudate and the left middle occipital gyrus compared to non-depressed PD patients and healthy controls. Additionally, non-depressed PD patients exhibited increased functional connectivity between ventromedial putamen and paracentral lobule, ventromedial putamen and precentral gyrus, and ventromedial putamen and precuneus compared to healthy controls. These findings provide new insights into the neural mechanism of depression in the early stage of Parkinson's disease and contribute to exploring potential neuroimaging markers for DPD.

Abnormal degree centrality in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients with cognitive impairment: a resting-state functional MRI study

Peina Chen et al.

Summary: Functional connectivity changes were observed in ESRD patients with cognitive impairment compared to healthy controls, with alterations in DC values across different brain regions. The findings suggest that altered degree centrality may serve as early biomarkers for cognitive impairment in ESRD patients.

Alterations in intrinsic functional networks in Parkinson's disease patients with depression: A resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging study

Yi-Hui Qiu et al.

Summary: The aim of this research was to investigate alterations in functional brain networks in Parkinson's disease patients with depression (DPD). The study found that DPD patients had decreased local efficiency in certain brain regions compared to healthy controls, and showed weaker connections between different brain regions compared to the control group. These results suggest that PD depression is associated with disruptions in the topological organization of functional brain networks.

Abnormal Default-Mode Network Homogeneity in Melancholic and Nonmelancholic Major Depressive Disorder at Rest

Summary: This study aimed to explore distinctive alterations in melancholic major depressive disorder (MDD) and whether these alterations could be used as potential imaging markers to differentiate melancholic MDD from nonmelancholic MDD. The results showed unique network homogeneity changes in melancholic MDD patients, which could accurately distinguish between melancholic and nonmelancholic MDD with high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.

Changes in Degree Centrality of Network Nodes in Different Frequency Bands in Parkinson's Disease With Depression and Without Depression

Haiyan Liao et al.

Summary: The degree centrality (DC) changes between Parkinson's disease patients with depression (PDD) and without depression (PDND) are frequency dependent and frequency specific. The medial frontal gyrus, supplementary motor area (SMA), and limbic system may be key hubs associated with depression in PD. PDD patients exhibit wider and more abnormal brain areas in the slow-4 frequency band compared to healthy controls, while PDND patients show more abnormal functions in the basal ganglia in the same frequency band.

Macular microcirculation characteristics in Parkinson's disease evaluated by OCT-Angiography: a literature review

Evita Evangelia Christou et al.

Summary: The retina may serve as a predictive factor for neurodegenerative disorders, with recent use of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) in studying macular microcirculation changes in Parkinson's disease (PD). While preliminary evidence suggests OCT-A could be a useful biomarker for cerebral vasculature in PD, further research is needed to confirm its predictive value in clinical practice.
