Degradation of pharmaceutical memantine by photo-based advanced oxidation processes: Kinetics, pathways and environmental aspects

Josipa Papac et al.

Summary: The degradation of memantine (MEM) was investigated using UV-C/H2O2 and UV-A/TiO2 processes under optimized conditions. Complete degradation of MEM (0.1 mM) was achieved in < 3.5 min by UV-C/H2O2 process and in 90 min by UV-A/TiO2 process. The study highlights the importance of understanding the degradation and toxicity of MEM and its intermediates in the environment.

In situ growth and crystallization of TiO2 on polymeric membranes for the photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac and 17α-ethinylestradiol

Seghir Dekkouche et al.

Summary: TiO2 in situ growth on three commercial membranes and its hydrothermal post-crystallization were successfully achieved under mild synthesis conditions. The membranes with higher porosity and hydrophilicity showed enhanced distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles. TiO2 membranes, especially those prepared with PVDF, exhibited high stability and photocatalytic activity in removing contaminants through adsorption and UV-LED photocatalysis.

Catalytic and photocatalytic effects of TiO2 nanoparticles on electrooxidation of common antioxidants on carbon paste

Ivana Zrinski et al.

Summary: The catalytic and photocatalytic effects of TiO2 nanoparticles on the electrooxidation of various acids on carbon paste electrodes were studied. It was found that the introduction of TiO2 and UV illumination both increased the anodic charge of antioxidants, indicating enhanced oxidation. UV illumination further promoted the oxidation process by exciting TiO2 electrons and creating a photocurrent.

Comparative Photo-Electrochemical and Photocatalytic Studies with Nanosized TiO2 Photocatalysts towards Organic Pollutants Oxidation

Damian Monllor-Satoca et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of nanosized TiO2 in photo-electrochemical and photocatalytic reactions, showing that nanosized TiO2 has a good effect on the photooxidation reaction of acetone. Different reaction conditions affect the photocatalytic efficiency, and larger-sized samples exhibit lower photoactivity compared to nanosized samples. There is a direct correlation between photocatalytic experiments and photo-electrochemical measurements.

Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and hydrogen production by a visible light-responsive Bi2WO6/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction

Auttaphon Chachvalvutikul et al.

Summary: This study reports the photocatalytic applications of the direct Z-scheme Bi2WO6/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction in the degradation of organic pollutants and the production of H-2 gas. The photocatalyst showed high photoactivity and an enhancement in H-2 production, maintaining its efficacy even after multiple repeated cycles. The improved photo-efficacy of this heterojunction is attributed to the enhanced separation and transportation of photogenerated e(-)/h(+) through a direct Z-scheme system.
