B. Hasa et al.

Summary: Pt-based electrocatalysts, both monometallic and bimetallic, synthesized using graphene as the support, showed improved performance for the electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol. The interaction between metal particles and carbon support, as well as the surface structure and electronic interaction, played crucial roles in the electrocatalytic activity.

Materials Engineering toward Durable Electrocatalysts for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been widely used in commercial markets, especially in the automotive industry. However, the durability of current electrocatalysts, which are crucial for the performance of PEMFCs, remains a significant challenge. Finding strategies to improve the lifespan of electrocatalysts is crucial for practical application in PEMFCs.

X-ray diffraction reinvestigation of the Ni-Pt phase diagram

Anton A. Popov et al.

Summary: The Ni-Pt phase diagram was corrected using powder X-ray diffraction data in the range of 15-85 at.% Pt and in the temperature range of 400-525 degrees C. Nanocrystalline particles (nanoalloys) were used as initial samples to reduce the time required to reach equilibrium, and in situ phase transformations at high temperatures were studied by X-ray diffraction. The positions of single-phase regions in the Ni1-xPtx (A1), Ni3Pt (L1(2)), NiPt (L1(0)), NiPt3 (L1(2)) systems were corrected.

Carbon Erosion of a Bulk Nickel-Copper Alloy as an Effective Tool to Synthesize Carbon Nanofibers from Hydrocarbons

I. Mishakov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the targeted synthesis of carbon nanomaterials using carbon erosion of bulk metals and alloys in a carbon-containing atmosphere. A set of highly active Ni0.89Cu0.11 alloys was synthesized and studied for their potential as catalyst precursors for the production of carbon nanofibers from ethylene. The activation time was found to significantly affect the particle morphology, phase composition, growth kinetics, and carbon product yield. The early stage of carbon erosion of the alloy was studied, revealing the nucleation of carbon fiber growth active sites and the complete disintegration of the alloy within a short period of time.

Interaction of chlorinated hydrocarbons with nichrome alloy: From surface transformations to complete dusting

Ilya Mishakov et al.

Summary: The metal dusting process of the nichrome alloy in the atmosphere of chlorinated hydrocarbon was investigated. Samples with different exposure times were prepared to study the bulk NiCr evolution. X-ray diffraction data showed no changes in the phase composition of the nichrome alloy after 1 hour of treatment, indicating that the amount of deposited carbon was below 1 wt%. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed the formation of carbon filaments. Based on transmission electron microscopy results, a 4-stage schematic mechanism describing the metal dusting process of the bulk nichrome alloy was proposed and discussed.

Porous Co-Pt Nanoalloys for Production of Carbon Nanofibers and Composites

Sofya D. Afonnikova et al.

Summary: In this study, Co-Pt alloy catalysts were prepared by reductive thermolysis, and carbon nanofibers (CNF) were successfully synthesized. It was found that the addition of an appropriate amount of platinum to the alloy can enhance the activity of the catalyst, with a maximum yield of 40 g/g(cat). The structure of CNF and the local composition of active particles were also investigated.

Hong Wang et al.

Summary: A simple one-step synthesis of CQD-CNT was achieved using an active CaO supported Fe-Co catalyst derived from waste eggshells, which also allowed for the synthesis of other CNT-based composites. By modulating the catalyst support, growth temperature, and growth time, different types of CNT-based composites could be synthesized.

Facile synthesis of triple Ni-Mo-W alloys and their catalytic properties in chemical vapor deposition of chlorinated hydrocarbons

Yury Shubin et al.

Summary: In this study, sponge-like porous Ni-Mo-W alloys were prepared as catalysts for the catalytic chemical vapor deposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The synthesis of the alloys was performed via high-temperature reductive thermolysis of multicomponent precursors, showing synergistic effects of Mo and W on process efficiency during the decomposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The catalytic activity of the alloys was studied in a flow-through reactor at 600 degrees C for 2 hours.
