Confined Ni-In intermetallic alloy nanocatalyst with excellent coking resistance for methane dry reforming

Wenming Liu et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide and methane are major greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, but dry reforming of methane (DRM) can convert them into useful products. However, the coking formation on nickel-based catalysts is a challenge for industrialization. Confined indium-nickel intermetallic alloy nanocatalysts show superior resistance to coking in DRM, with the In0.5Ni@SiO2 catalyst demonstrating the best balance of carbon deposition resistance and reactivity. This study provides guidance on designing high-performance catalysts for methane dry reforming to utilize greenhouse gases efficiently.

Ni/Ce0.9Eu0.1O1.95 with enhanced coke resistance for dry reforming of methane

Yaning Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Ni/Ce0.9Eu0.1O1.95 catalysts with better activity and enhanced stability were synthesized for dry reforming of methane. The catalysts exhibited stronger lattice oxygen mobility, higher oxygen storage capacity, and a strong metal-support interaction, which contributed to the reduction of carbon deposition and sintering. As a result, the catalyst achieved a balance between the rate of carbon generation and carbon consumption, leading to improved overall catalytic performance.

Enhanced activity and stability of MgO-promoted Ni/Al2O3 catalyst for dry reforming of methane: Role of MgO

Baitang Jin et al.

Summary: The study deposited highly dispersed nickel nanoparticles on aluminum oxide using atomic layer deposition, and found that the addition of MgO increased the basicity of catalyst surfaces, assisting CO2 adsorption and activation. Although the formation of NiO-MgO solid solution did not improve overall reducibility, the interaction between reduced Ni nanoparticles and MgO inhibited sintering and provided sufficient metal-support interface for CO2 activation, leading to higher methane reforming rates.

Activity and stability descriptors of Ni based alloy catalysts for dry reforming of methane: A density functional theory study

Koustuv Ray et al.

Summary: The catalytic activity and stability of alumina-supported Ni and Ni3M (M = Fe, Co, Cu) alloy catalysts for dry reforming of methane (DRM) were rationalized through density functional theory (DFT) studies. It was found that methane dissociation energy is a suitable descriptor for activity, while carbon adsorption energy is a suitable descriptor for stability.

Stabilizing Ni-Co Alloy on Bimodal Mesoporous Alumina to Enhance Carbon Resistance for Dry Reforming of Methane

Bin Li et al.

Summary: Alloying nickel with a transition metal and stabilizing an active metal on bimodal support can effectively enhance carbon resistance for dry reforming of methane reaction. The study showed that the bimodal mesoporous alumina-supported Ni-Co alloy catalyst displayed improved carbon resistance compared to other catalysts, attributed to the suppression of methane dissociation and enhanced mass transport.

Nickel nanoparticles with interfacial confinement mimic noble metal catalyst in methane dry reforming

Wenbo Kong et al.

Summary: Precisely decorating the Ni surface with SiO2 can prevent carbon deposition and enhance the stability of the catalyst. The Ni-O···Si center enables the activation of CH4 to form CHx instead of carbon. Through effective interfacial confinement, SiO2 can significantly alter the electronic properties of Ni particles.
