Extensive HPV Genotyping Reveals High Association between Multiple Infections and Cervical Lesions in Chinese Women

Fangfang Zhong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence and diversity of HPV infections in Chinese women and evaluates the impact of multiple HPV infections on cervical lesion progression. The results show that HPV16, 52, and 58 are the most frequent genotypes in CIN2+ among the Chinese population, and mixing HPV16 with other genotypes alleviates its pathogenicity. HPV26 may be considered as a high-risk HPV. Additionally, viral load and the percentage of HPV16 are positively correlated with the severity of cervical lesions.

Diagnostic value of colposcopy in patients with cytology-negative and HR-HPV-positive cervical lesions

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that colposcopy has a moderate diagnostic accuracy in patients with HR-HPV-positive cytology-negative screening results. HPV viral load and childbearing history are independent factors affecting the accuracy of colposcopy-based diagnosis.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Triaging HPV-positive, cytology-negative cervical cancer screening results with extended HPV genotyping and p16INK4a immunostaining in China

Fangbin Song et al.

Summary: HPV genotyping for HPV16/33 could be utilized to optimize the management of HPV-positive, cytology-negative women. Moreover, p16 immunostaining, either alone or combined with extended genotypes, is more effective than HPV genotypes alone in the triage of HPV-positive, cytology-negative women.

Risks for cervical abnormalities in women with non-16/18 high-risk human papillomavirus infections in south Shanghai, China

Xiaoyun Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed a high prevalence of non-16/18 high-risk HPV infections in cervical abnormalities, with single infections posing greater risks. The omission rate of TCT in non-16/18 HPV infections was notably high, suggesting the importance of colposcopy biopsy for accurate diagnosis in these patients.

Bei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the accuracy of colposcopy diagnosis according to the 2011 IFCPC terminology, finding that while the terminology improves accuracy, some signs have limited diagnostic value due to low sensitivity. The diagnostic significance of Lugol's staining was discussed, with mustard yellow potentially being a valuable indicator for HSIL diagnosis.

Risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 or higher (CIN3+) among women with HPV-test in 1990-1992, a 30-year follow-up study

Marit Ostlyngen Riibe et al.

Summary: This study conducted a 30-year follow-up of women tested for HPV, comparing their HPV status at baseline with the risk of CIN3+ in the follow-up period. The results showed that women with a positive HPV test had a significantly higher risk of CIN3+ over 30 years, with HPV 16 associated with the greatest long-term risk of cervical cancer. All patients with a positive HPV test at baseline should be consistently followed up until the test turns negative.

Use of extended HR-HPV Genotyping in improving the Triage Strategy of 2019 ASCCP recommendations in Women with positive HR-HPV diagnosis and Simultaneous LSIL Cytology Results

Huifeng Xue et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of extended HR-HPV genotyping in women with HR-HPV-positive and LSIL diagnoses. The extended HPV 16/18/31/33/52/58 genotyping model showed higher sensitivity and NPV, with a significantly lower colposcopy referral rate compared to the ASCCP-recommended non-genotyping model.
