Soil carbon dioxide fluxes to atmosphere: The role of rainfall to control CO2 transport

Isabelle Delsarte et al.

Summary: The experiments showed that rainfall events significantly decrease the CO2 flux in soil, as the rainfall infiltration washes out the CO2 present in the soil.

A global meta-analysis of greenhouse gases emission and crop yield under no-tillage as compared to conventional tillage

Awais Shakoor et al.

Summary: No-tillage (NT) practice has been widely adopted to improve soil conditions and reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions. However, its effects on GHGs emissions and crop yields remain inconsistent. A global meta-analysis showed that NT increased CO2, N2O, and CH4 emissions compared to conventional tillage (CT), but also led to a slight decline in global warming potential. Increasing nitrogen (N) fertilization rates under NT improved both crop yield and GHGs emissions, especially in irrigated areas.

Long term effects of fire on the soil greenhouse gas balance of an old-growth temperate rainforest

Jorge F. Perez-Quezada et al.

Summary: The study showed that forest fires can have long-lasting effects on forest ecosystems, particularly on the soil greenhouse gas balance. The unburned forest emitted higher levels of CO2 and was a sink for CH4, while the burned site emitted lower levels of CO2 and was a source for CH4, indicating the importance of preserving forest ecosystems post-fire.

Subsoiling increases aggregate-associated organic carbon, dry matter, and maize yield on the North China Plain

Ying Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that different tillage methods have significant effects on aggregate-associated organic carbon (AOC), dry matter accumulation and transport, and maize yield in the North China Plain. Subsoiling showed the best results in increasing AOC content and maize yield, making it the ideal tillage method for the NCP region.

Leaf nitrogen have a better relationship with photosynthesis performance across wheat species under elevated CO2 and drought

Zong Yu-zheng et al.

Summary: Elevated CO2 concentration can alleviate the limitation of stomatal morphology traits on stomatal conductance regulation and increase dependency on leaf nitrogen concentration for photosynthetic performance in wheat species under different water regimes. Modern cultivated cultivars exhibit higher photosynthetic performance per unit of leaf nitrogen compared to wild species, indicating potential opportunities for breeding cultivars with better photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency in future CO2 rising climates.
