Strain Measurements With Langasite SAW Resonators at High Temperature

Flexible/Bendable Acoustofluidics Based on Thin-Film Surface Acoustic Waves on Thin Aluminum Sheets

Summary: The performance of zinc oxide (ZnO) thin-film surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices on flexible and bendable thin aluminum (Al) foils/sheets with various thicknesses was explored in this study. Theoretical calculations show that bending under strain levels up to 3000 mu epsilon causes minimal frequency shift and amplitude change, maintaining acoustofluidic performance. The study identified the optimal thickness range of the Al sheet for efficient microfluidic actuation and significant deformation of the substrate, providing a guide for device design. Efficient liquid transportation across a wide range of substrate geometries was demonstrated using a 200 mu m thick Al sheet SAW device.

Bending behaviors of flexible acoustic wave devices under non-uniform elasto-plastic deformation

Summary: This study developed a multi-sublayer model based on a stiffness matrix method to analyze the frequency shifts of surface acoustic waves and Lamb waves under elasto-plastic deformations. Experimental results show good agreement with theoretical predictions in elastic bending tests and relatively good agreement in nonlinearly elasto-plastic bending. The frequency shifts obtained experimentally demonstrate good repeatability in both elastic and elasto-plastic bending processes.

Microstructure and bending piezoelectric characteristics of AlN film for high-frequency flexible SAW devices

Summary: Flexible surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are a hot topic in wearable communication technology due to their ductility and bendability. This study investigated the effects of sputtering power on the microstructure and bending piezoelectric characteristics of aluminum nitride (AlN) films on polyimide (PI) with molybdenum (Mo) buffer layer for high-frequency flexible SAW devices. Results showed that using 240 W sputtering power produced highly oriented AlN films with low roughness, and after cyclic bending, the devices maintained high stability with a relative piezoelectric coefficient d*(33) of about 8.01 pm/V and a center frequency as high as 4.95 GHz.
