Enhanced Performance of ΔTad upon Frequent Alternating Magnetic Fields in FeRh Alloys by Introducing Second Phases

Kaiming Qiao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the cyclability and low-magnetic-field performance of the adiabatic temperature change (ΔT-ad) in FeRh alloys can be greatly enhanced by introducing second phases. The introduction of second phases enables the antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition to be driven by a lower magnetic field, resulting in a significant enhancement of ΔT-ad. Furthermore, the specific cooling power increases significantly with frequency under an alternating magnetic field. The findings provide an effective method to improve the performance of FeRh alloys in refrigeration applications.

Direct-Write of Nanoscale Domains with Tunable Metamagnetic Order in FeRh Thin Films

Cory D. Cress et al.

Summary: In this work, we demonstrate the direct writing of nanoscale magnetic ordering patterns in FeRh films using focused helium-ion beam irradiation. By characterizing the changes in magnetic order induced by He+ irradiation, as well as quantifying strain- and defect-induced alterations in spin-flip energy, we show promise for the development of in-plane AF-FM spintronic devices. This approach may reduce the complexity of fabrication processes and eliminate interfacial polarization losses in such devices.

Bio-Inspired Multi-Mode Pain-Perceptual System (MMPPS) with Noxious Stimuli Warning, Damage Localization, and Enhanced Damage Protection

Fali Li et al.

Summary: The MMPPS is essential for the human body to perceive and react to noxious stimuli, offering a smarter protection mechanism through switching between different working modes. By mimicking the central sensitization mechanism, a bio-inspired MMPPS has been developed for prosthetics protection, warning of potential injury, identifying damaged areas, and providing extra care. This system could pave the way for designing next-generation prosthetics and other smart sensing systems under complete protection against injuries.

Stretching-Tunable High-Frequency Magnetic Properties of Wrinkled CoFeB Films Grown on PDMS

Jian Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a convenient method of using uniaxial tensile strains to tune the high-frequency properties of flexible magnetic films was demonstrated. The CoFeB films, deposited onto prestretched PDMS membranes, showed self-assembled periodic wrinkling surface structure. By applying a uniaxial stretching strain, the morphology and residual tensile stress could be continuously tuned, resulting in changes in high-frequency performance such as permeability and ferromagnetic resonance frequency. These findings suggest potential applications of flexible CoFeB films in flexible and tunable microwave devices.
